    • Accurately learns content of and interprets blueprints, schematics, and service/repair manuals.
    • Working under the guidance of a City of Reading licensed electrician
    • Applies information to the successful repair of electrical systems and other electrical repairs as assigned.
    • Demonstrates skills in electrical equipment/systems operation principles using knowledge in troubleshooting and repairing, through appropriate training (schooling) for electrical trade.
    • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of all types of electrical related tools and equipment, i.e., hydraulic benders, knock out cutters, wire pullers, threaders, and miscellaneous testing equipment.
    • Demonstrates up-to-date knowledge of applicable local, state, and national electrical codes.
    • Ensures the proper electrical repair parts, equipment, and tools are available at site.
    • Actively participates and completes formal training in electrical codes, equipment, tools, and methods.
    • Continually improves technical knowledge through independent research and study.
    • Demonstrates professionalism in dealing with school and administrative staff and school or county inspectors.
    • Demonstrates a cooperative attitude and exercises good judgment.
    • Exercises tact, courtesy, self-control, patience, and respect for others.
    • Effectively communicates, both orally and in writing, with department employees and follows up on job safety.
    • Possesses sufficient color perception of distinguish colors of electrical wiring.
    • Demonstrates strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks.
    • Performs other duties assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, wiring diagrams and technical and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to communicate scope of work and plans of actions to management, building administrators, custodians, and maintenance personnel.
    • Ability to complete work order forms, time sheets, and other departmental forms.
    • Ability to prepare sketches, drawings and plans.
    • Ability to interpret blueprints and other construction related documents.
    • Ability to plan, measure and layout jobs.
    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts utilizing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
    • Ability to compute areas, circumference, length, width, depth, and volume.
    • Ability to calculate percentages discounts and total costs.
    • Ability to collect/compile information to determine appropriate course of action.
    • Ability to adapt to unforeseen field conditions.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram or schedule form.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of all applicable codes.
    • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
    • Ability to speak clearly and concisely in oral and written communication.

    • Position Title: Apprentice Electrician
      Classification: Teamsters
      Reports To: Director of Facilities
      Position Goal: Performs a gradually increasing percentage of journey-level duties while learning the electrician trade by means of on-the-job learning and formal instruction. Persons in this program are required to attend and maintain satisfactory progress in a formally recognized apprentice training program (post-secondary instruction) designated by the Reading School District and to complete all requirements in the time frame specified.


      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
      Other duties may be assigned. The essential functions of this position include 1 but are not limited to the following fundamental duties:

      EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

      High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Employee must attend the electrical apprentice program course. Employee will be approved by Reading School District Administration

The employee must frequently move and/or lift up to 50 pounds such as materials and equipment. Specific vision capabilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to hear conversations in noisy environments. The employee must be able to drive all district vehicles.
