      Job summary

      An opportunity has arisen to join the Emergency Department Reception Team. The successful candidate would have to have a flexible approach and be part of a team that provides twenty four hour cover.

      Duties to include:

      • Patient registration onto the Hospital Careflow System. Ensuring Patients details are accurate/up dated where required.
      • Book Out-patient appointments when requested.
      • Deal with Patient/Relatives enquiries.
      • To assist Clinical staff in non-clinical duties.
      • Liaise and provide information to a wide range of people, whilst adhering to the Data Protection Act.

      Skills to include:

      • Computer literate - excellent keyboard skills.
      • Excellent Communication skills.
      • Understanding of Patient Confidentiality/Data Protection Act.
      • Ability to work as part of a team, whilst demonstrating a flexible approach.
      • Ability to work under pressure.
      • Basic understanding of Medical Terminology.

      Main duties of the job

      Participate in all administrative and clerical duties within the Emergency Department and maintain professional code of conduct.Use the hospital CareFlow system to register new patients and ensure that all data is correctly recorded.Ensure all outpatients referrals are processedUse the NHS Summary Care Records (SCR) to ensure the correct NHS number is assigned to patients on CareFlow .Be confident and pro-active during a major incident in line with the Trust's Major Incident policy.Provide IT support to clinical staff.Batch print GP letters and prepare for posting.Work with the department security personnel to ensure safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.Report any aggressive or abusive behaviour to security and ED nurse in charge and complete an incident form (Datix).Deal with telephone and other enquiries promptly and effectively.Provide an empathic service to public/ patients.Keep up to date with all training and service improvements.Ensure all complaints or patient issues are recorded and escalated to the line manager in a timely fashion including those resolved by the post holder..Ensure all documentation, including patient's records, is filed in a timely way in accordance with department protocols. confidentiality.Work flexibly and effectively as part of a team to facilitate the provision of day-to-day services in line with trust and departmental standards and protocols.

Where the post holder identifies any discrepancies within the service this should be reported in the first instance to his/ her line manager.Participate and be pro-active within team meetings within the Emergency Department.
