      PSE's Planning team is looking for qualified candidates to fill an open Engineer In Training position!
      Specific details regarding the work arrangements for this position will be discussed in further detail during the interview process.

      Job Description

      Puget Sound Energy is looking to hire early-career engineers as “Engineers in Training” (EITs) to participate in our Engineering Development Program (EDP). The position is for candidates interested in pursuing a career in Engineering who have between 0-2 years of experience in engineering design, preparation of specifications, technical field work, or system studies.

      Through the EDP, you will have the unique opportunity to broaden your knowledge of the utility industry by working in different workgroups that make up our core business of providing gas and electric service to our customers. The experience gained in these workgroups will enable you to develop crucial technical skills and form valuable working relationships with others across multiple job levels and workgroups. Your progression through the EPD will also be demonstrated by increasing responsibilities and opportunities to support PSE’s 2030 strategic framework and Beyond Net Zero Carbon goals, provide exceptional customer service, improve reliability of PSE’s electric and gas systems, and support emerging technologies and sustainable resources.

      The EDP experience includes rotations through a minimum of three workgroups. You will begin your PSE career by working in a customer-facing team. After this initial assignment, you will have the opportunity to pursue roles within other Engineering workgroups to gain additional perspective on the work we do, our Company, and our industry.


      Successful candidates will be placed into one of the following Customer & System Projects departments for the first assignment:

      • Customer & System Projects – Seattle/Snohomish Gas
      • Customer & System Projects – King County Public Improvement
      • Customer & System Projects – North King Electric

      Within Customer & System Projects, you will learn about materials and equipment used in our electric and gas distribution systems, design distribution facilities, gain valuable experience in project management, negotiate with customers and jurisdictions, and coordinate with construction teams to see your projects through to completion.

      Job Responsibilities

      • Supports the preparation of engineering plans, designs, specifications, standards, cost estimates, system studies, and other such evaluations
      • Applies fundamental engineering principles and theories commonly used in engineering investigations and analysis
      • Collects and organizes data from multiple existing and new sources
      • Assists more experienced staff with interpretation and analysis of data
      • Gains an understanding of the basic functions of PSE’s engineering departments
      • Performs field visits and gathers information to aid in the design and construction of gas, electric, and energy infrastructure
      • Develops contacts in each department that can be utilized in the future when engineering expertise is required
      • Supports emergency response operations when needed
      • Performs other duties as assigned

      Minimum Qualifications

      • Bachelor of Science degree in electrical, mechanical, civil or other appropriate engineering discipline.
      • Entry level to 2 years of experience in engineering design, preparation of specifications, technical field work, or system studies.

      Desired Qualifications

      • Possession of or ability to acquire an EIT certificate
      • Work or internship experience in utility engineering or related fields
      • Knowledge of project cost estimating or scheduling
      • Knowledge of engineering economics and analysis
      • Curriculum emphasis in power engineering (for BSEE applicants)

      Additional Information

      The position will remain open for the month of August and interviews are anticipated to start towards the end of the month with tentative start dates in September 2023. Candidates are encouraged to apply prior to graduating but must have a BS in an appropriate engineering discipline prior to starting.


      EIT positions are eligible for PSE’s Hybrid Workplace and remote work options. Actual office locations may include South King (Kent), Factoria (Bellevue), Snoqualmie, or Bothell.

      The pay range for this position is $65,500.00 - $93,100.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
