      Tacoma Public Utilities Power department is currently recruiting for internships! This opportunity is for engineering students to apply their engineering studies, receive hands-on experience, and work side-by-side with experienced professionals on challenging and fun engineering projects. This position is to assist and learn from our Power Shared Services electrical engineer. Under guidance from our electrical engineer this position will be exposed to a diverse portfolio of work. Many of the duties that this position will be involved with are critical to Tacoma Power’s ongoing operations. Duties associated with this Engineering Intern position include assistance with updating electrical engineering drawings from redlines, develop engineering calculations, inspection and evaluation of existing electrical systems, development of engineering drawings, review of consultant construction packages, review, and recommendations of construction issues.

      Responsibilities Include

      • Assist engineers in updating existing drawings from construction redlines
      • Assist with development of engineering calculations
      • Assist engineers with inspection and evaluation of existing electrical systems
      • Assist engineers with development of engineering drawings
      • Assist with review of consultant construction packages
      • Assist with review and recommendation of construction issues

      Minimum Education*
      Bachelor's degree in progress

      Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
      None

      Desired Qualifications

      • Acceptance into the college of engineering, and a declared major of electrical engineering
      • Starting Junior or Senior year in college
      • Basic understanding of AutoCAD, and development of design drawings. Basic understanding of electrical engineering concepts with the ability to communicate these concepts to others. Ability to take direction, follow processes, and accept feedback from professional engineers and stakeholders. Basic proficiency with technical writing, engineering software, spreadsheets, and technology
