The Engineering Manager leads our Software Engineering teams, ensuring that they are consistently delivering the capability Sky needs to meet business and customer outcomes, against the engineering standards we expect to see. The Engineering Manager also owns pastoral care, learning/development and general happiness of one or more teams, and should maintain effective relationships with stakeholders and delivery partners throughout Sky – all this to ensure our people are set up to succeed.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
⦁ Lead a team of Software Engineers and Testers of varying experience levels, supporting with personal development, pastoral care, coaching, mentoring, training and performance management
⦁ Be an advocate for good practice and patterns throughout the team – from effective road mapping to release engineering
⦁ Play an active role in assessing and maintaining the morale of the team, balancing the needs of our people and our business
⦁ Measure and manage adherence to Engineering Standards across the team, ensuring that output is right first time and coaching a ‘baked in quality’ mindset
⦁ Run the recruitment pipelines for the team within established guardrails, ensuring sufficient capacity to deliver the roadmap
⦁ Actively develop your own skills and be an advocate for a learning culture in the team
⦁ Own the process for driving our technical roadmap forward, supporting with capacity planning, delivery, and facilitation
⦁ Maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, dependency owners and leaders & specialists from other disciplines, whose skills and efforts are required for the team to succeed.
WHAT WILL YOU BRING :
⦁ A background in Software Engineering or experience leading Software Engineers delivering modern solutions in a complex environment
⦁ A passion for leading people, spotting and growing talent and delivering through others
⦁ Experience motivating those in your team to take accountability for their work by providing clear direction and opportunities for learning & feedback
⦁ Experience managing stakeholders to ensure a consistent message is received on delivery and budget impacts
⦁ Familiarity with team / platform performance measurement trends and an understanding of how to inspect and adapt the processes and culture
⦁ An understanding of deadlines, budget constraints and scope of delivery. Experience working with stakeholders to ensure the right balance between these is met, setting expectations and handling risks early
⦁ Excellent organizational skills, with experience making work visible and facilitating sessions to discuss all aspects of Software Development
⦁ Ability to communicate and coordinate between teams. Take pride and ownership in your work, confidently representing your team to other parts of Sky.UK&I TECHNOLOGY
