Develop the product strategy for transmission components and systems to support aftermarket, internal and external customer needs,
Lead global teams in the design and development of new transmission system, components and supporting processes.
Provide technical guidance and direction to initiate ideas and problem solve.
Demonstrate the ability to use foundational product development skills such as conceptual design, development of product and/or process, data analysis & extraction, failure resolution & prevention, and requirements management is required; as well as, ever increasing skill in technical project management, development of product, internal and external requirements management, and cost-value management.
Coach and facilitate the development of the work group to develop collaborative relationships among themselves, with customers, suppliers, other cross functional groups, and internal customers to ensure goals are achieved.
Project scope will vary from a moderate technical focus to a broader, multi-systems focus, and will require incumbent to broaden business understanding. Challenges include increased competitive pressure, increasing project complexity and customer demands.
Engaging with and influencing the direction of the immediate work group or project team, division/business unit, suppliers, internal and external customers, and the market, aligning to project and business needs.
Decisions may impact an entire product, process or factory and may affect warranty, sales, customer perception, and could have effect of evolutionary change to technology and its application in drivetrain products or processes.
This position has primary accountability for operating expense budget, project and team.
Communicate results to global customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units
Complete projects on time and on cost
Acknowledge and raise customers’ and management’s awareness of trade-offs between time, resources, and quality.
Present and share information in a compelling way, at the appropriate level of detail for the audience.
Internal candidates must have satisfactorily completed a minimum of one years’ service in their current position to apply for another role, or have obtained, in writing, authorisation from their manager to waive this requirement. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or other related discipline
Significant relevant experience in Transmission, Engine or Drive Train end to end design process design and development.
Development experience with countershaft, hystat, planetary transmissions, hydraulic systems, hydraulic component integration (valves / pumps / motors), wet clutches, gears (planetary, helical, bevel, spur), shafts, bearings, and housings.
Results driven with a positive attitude and an understanding of when to get into the details to address concerns or set direction.
Experience of technical project management and planning.
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Proven team leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
6 Sigma tools and processes
Caterpillar systems and process knowledge
Pro/e or 3D modelling and drawing creation experience

Salary: £ 70,000 - £85 ,000 depending on experience or SG25 internally

Position Summary:
Caterpillar's Small Drivetrain (SDT) is a market leader in the design, development, sales and support of off-highway transmissions (50 kW / 67 hp to 135 kW / 180 hp) for Backhoe Loaders, Telescopic Material Handlers and Wheel Loaders, supplied internally and externally to original equipment manufacturers.
As an Engineering Manager you will be responsible for supervision and technical direction to a group of engineers and technical specialist(s) engaged in design, development or research activities for transmissions and drivetrain components, accomplishing product maintenance, aftermarket, and new product introduction objectives. Reporting to this position are various level of engineers and support personnel in one or more geographic location. You will guide the team to solve complex, global technical problems through innovative solutions and support the development and execution of the product strategy. You will manage the planning and delivery of projects focused on new product development, continually learn, and stay abreast of innovative technology, mentor, and coach enterprise team members, and deepen your professional network. You will manage the section budget, forecast, and cost structure.
