      ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION COMMISSION

      Environmental Scientist II (Air Division – Compliance & Enforcement)

      (#ENVSC2EPC0) EPCO

      $26.09 - $41.00 Hourly

      $54,267.20 - $85,280.00 Yearly

      Performs professional and technical duties in the office and field related to noise, asbestos, and similar environmental investigations.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

      A Bachelor's degree in a Natural Science; and

      Two or more years of experience in environmental protection or control, or environmental laboratory analysis; and

      Possession of a valid Driver's License.

      Or

      An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.

      JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

      • Considerable knowledge of environmental pollutants sampling and testing.
      • Working knowledge of Federal, State, and local environmental control and mitigation laws and regulations related to air quality, with an emphasis on noise and asbestos regulations.
      • Ability to use a computer and related software, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
      • Ability to conduct and interpret test results.
      • Ability to use and maintain noise monitoring equipment.
      • Ability to work effectively with others.
      • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

      REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below.

      • Interacts with residents to document and investigate complaints in all areas of the Air Citizen Response Section, with an emphasis on administering EPC’s Noise Rule (Chapter 1-10).
      • Collects noise data in the field, including occasional off-hours monitoring needs.
      • Utilizes noise monitoring meters, conducts analysis of acquired data, and drafts corresponding reports.
      • Reviews notifications, permit applications, field reviews, complaints and investigations submitted by subordinates and clients.
      • Uses aerial photographs for assessing site guidance, continuity of systems, and adjacent land use.
      • Prepares and submits detailed reports of activities.
      • Represents the agency as part of community outreach.
      • Performs other related duties as required.

      EPC is an alcohol and drug-free work environment. Employees may be required to take drug and alcohol tests (e.g. - post-accident or reasonable suspicion). If an employee tests positive for THC or marijuana, the test will be considered a positive drug test even if an employee uses cannabidiol (CBD) products and/or has a medical marijuana card.
