Title: ESL/Citizenship Instructor

Reports To: Naturalization Program Supervisor
Summary: Responsible for conducting ESL/Citizenship educational classes in a hybrid format. Ensures classes are implemented in compliance with funders’ requirements. Maintains and improves the passing rate of newly naturalized US Citizens and promotes civic engagement.
Essential Functions:
⦁ Conducts virtual or in-person ESL/Citizenship classes for adult and aging learners, maintains class attendance records, completes new students' registrations, and engages students in class activities under the ESL/Naturalization teaching curriculum.
⦁ Develops and provides tutoring (including mock interview sessions) for upcoming interviewees.
⦁ Works closely with other ESL/ Citizenship Instructors and Coordinator to assist with students’ enrollments and detect possible duplicates.
⦁ Disseminates information and promotes the utilization of naturalization-related services by participating in outreach campaigns.
⦁ Conducts in-focus sessions to promote civic engagements and voting responsibilities of newly naturalized US Citizens.
⦁ Data entries for program enrollments and class attendance as needed.
⦁ Participates in training sessions and meetings under the program’s requirements.
⦁ Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
⦁ Bachelor's degree or Associate’s in human services-related field with one year of related work experience. Equivalent and relevant experiences are accepted in lieu of the education requirements.
⦁ Experience in the ESL teaching field with a good understanding of general program enrollments.
⦁ Must be self-motivated and able to multitask with multiple deadlines under minimal supervision.
⦁ Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
⦁ Bilingual and bi-literal in English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin) required.
⦁ Proficient in MS Office and the Internet.
⦁ Understanding the needs of adult and aging ESL learners and the immigration communities.
⦁ Must be able to travel via public transportation or personal vehicle to perform job duties. If driving, must have and maintain a valid CA driver's license, satisfactory driving record, and auto insurance coverage as specified in Self-Help's policy.
