      Facilities Technician

      Job purpose


      The Facilities Technician will be responsible for overseeing maintenance and care of shipyard facilities and equipment. This position will establish and maintain schedules for routine inspections and overhauls. The individual we be expected to analyze and prioritize potential repair projects and present a budget to senior management for approval.


      Duties and responsibilities

      • Schedule and oversee all in yard maintenance and certifications of equipment including:
        1. Compressors
        2. Drydocks and railways
        3. Cranes
        4. Shipyard work boats
        5. Vehicle fleet
        6. Piers and moorings
        7. Travel lift
      • Meet with company department heads to determine building needs and equipment repairs.
      • Oversee preservation and upkeep of all in yard systems including electric, gas, oxygen, water and HVAC.
      • Identify facility improvements for increased efficiencies and cost savings.
      • Directly responsible for overseeing in-yard repair and maintenance projects including new builds, installation of equipment and facility improvement.
      • Work with outside vendors and sub-contractors in repair and maintenance of the facility.
      • For all yard projects, repairs and improvements in excess of $5,000 present estimate of project to senior management for approval.
      • Maintain list of vehicles and mobile equipment.
      • Responsible for upkeep and cleanliness of the yard.
      • Review and approve vendor invoices, progress billings and sub-contractor schedules for in-yard work.
      • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

      Work Environment

      Work is generally performed in an office environment and in yard on the physical facilities. The position will require exposure to outside weather conditions while reviewing ongoing projects on the yard.

      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

      Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work

      This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. This position periodically requires long hours and weekend work. Regular and predictable on-site attendance is an essential function and a prerequisite to perform other essential functions of the position.

      Travel

      Travel is primarily local during the business day, although periodic out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

      Required Education and Experience

      1. High school graduate; College degree from an accredited institution a plus.
      2. Minimum of 10 years of experience in an industrial environment in similar capacity.
      3. Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office suite.
      4. Worked in an environment utilizing negotiating and communication skills.
      5. Ability to read and interpret work specs and drawings.

      Preferred Education or Experience

      Education based on requirements that are job-related and consistent with the business necessity.

      1. Experience in an industrial setting.
