      Job summary

      An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Family Support Worker to join our small but well- established Support for Families Team.

      We work closely with the Orchard Service Nursing Team to provide emotional and practical support to families whose babies, children and young people are experiencing long term complex and acute health needs. The postholder will need to have relevant experience working with children and families, ideally in relation to children with acute and complex medical conditions.

      This post requires empathy, flexibility, motivation, and the ability to work within an enthusiastic team. The postholder will also need to be able to meet the demands of providing support to children, young people and families in a variety of settings. The postholder will be based at our South office in Worcester and our North office in Bromsgrove, covering all of Worcestershire.

      Main duties of the job

      The main duties of the role will include:

      Working with children, young people and their families to provide emotional and practical support as part of a multi-disciplinary team involved in the assessment and care of children with complex nursing needs.

      Communicating at an appropriate level with individual children, young people and their parents/carers, as well as other professionals, including nurses, doctors, social workers, education staff, etc.

      Working closely with the teams Clinical Psychologist and Play Specialist to carry out assessments and interventions, ensuring that families are offered timely and effective support, including pre- and post-bereavement support.

      Developing and sharing knowledge of other services in order to advise and signpost families towards additional sources of support relating to psychological wellbeing and practical support such as charity funding, housing, benefits, etc.
