- Safety
- Uses proper safety equipment and procedures according to Cox Communications, industry and electrical established safety standards.
- Maintain annual bucket safety and electrical hazard training.
- Performs daily/weekly vehicle inspection and keeps tools secure per Cox standards.
- Technical
- Accurately maintains the fiber system by performing Quality Control assessment of enclosures to verify high levels of accuracy on all fiber assignments and labeling of fiber trays for 100% accuracy. Evaluates fiber optics system constructed internally or by outside contractor using Cox Communications Fiber Optic Cable Construction Standards and logs/reports discrepancies for potential rework.
- Performs splicing and maintenance of outside plant fiber optic networks by following dedicated splice plans in Excel format and accompanying system prints. Prepares and splices cables into splice enclosures utilizing various hand tools, equipment, and fusion splicer. Work performed will be located on overhead utility poles or in underground vaults depending on area.
- Maintains a high level of accuracy on all fiber splice assignments worked by performing pre-checks to verify traffic and accurate labeling to maintain fiber birth assignments with 100% accuracy.
- Uses approved industry test procedures for path losses and continuity to ensure integrity of fiber system and documents findings. Provides validation and proof-of-performance testing documentation on fiber circuits by utilizing OTDR reports, light meters, fiber scopes and other test equipment.
- Procedural
- Responds to service network issues related to fiber network degradations to troubleshoot and make repairs expeditiously.
- Acknowledges service affecting outage via ticketing system within 15 minutes.
- Diagnose and repair of fiber system damages utilizing established restoration techniques.
- Provides regular status updates on restoration progress to Leadership and boundary partners via an online bridge.
- Complete or assist in the 3rd Party Damage process.
- Create ECR ticket and complete impact analysis.
- Plan ECR activities to be completed within the maintenance window when necessary.
- Validates network status via NOC.
- Work with entities and follow municipal guidelines and standards while working in the right of way.
- Maintain detailed splice documentation records and provide updates of any changes to preserve data integrity. Accurately completes all departmental logs, reports and paperwork on a daily basis.

- HS diploma, GED or relevant work experience
- 1 or more years of experience in Fiber Optical field (Fusion splicing, Fiber Architecture, Design, Field Service FTTH, Construction in Telecommunication and Fiber Optics Field, Field Network/Maintenance FTTH SME, Construction NAT Fiber builds, CATV fiber and/or RF experience)
- Requires strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Writer. Ability to accurately read system design maps, blueprints and evaluate technical data.
- Excellent collaborative, time management, communication, and organizational skills to work effectively with teams throughout organization.
- Ability to work in all types of weather conditions.
- Physical ability to perform responsibilities of the job:
- Ability to carry, lift and use tools and equipment
- Requisite ability required to drive motor vehicle
- Adequate ability to distinguish different colors of fiber
- Ability to frequently bend, stoop, and crawl
- Ability to perform work in confined in spaces (such as manholes, tunnels, trenches, rooftops, etc.)
- The physical limitation of ladder and associated fall protection equipment provided is:
- 1AA ladder – 375 pounds (inclusive of body weight, tools, equipment, PPE etc.) Tools and equipment weigh approximately 100 pounds
- Bucket Truck – up to 350 pounds
- Fall Protection – 425 pounds for harness (inclusive of body weight, tools, equipment, PPE etc.) Tools and equipment weigh approximately 50 pounds
- The physical limitations of applicable equipment (such as aerial lift/buck truck boom, ladder, fall protection harness) includes body weight capacities of approximately 300 pounds.
- As part of the physical requirements of the essential functions of their job, the technicians will perform the following tasks:
- Lift and carry a 63 lb., 28’ extension ladder
- Occasionally sits and climbs ladders/stairs; performs fine motor and pinching movements; pivots with feet, and bends, twists, and laterally flexes back; reaches at overhead, shoulder, knee, and floor levels; shoulder circumduction while driving (turning steering wheel); stoops, squats, crouches, kneels, crawls, and presses foot pedals; extends, flexes, rotates, and laterally flexes neck
- Frequently stands and walks; pushes/pulls with arms and grasps with hands; reaches at waist
- AS/AA or Technical Certification in related discipline desired (i.e. Electronics)
- Preferred certification in Fiber Optic plant construction
- Knowledge of NESC, OSHA and NEC standards

Compensation
Hourly base pay rate is $28.08 - $42.12/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.Job Description
