      With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

      This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 29621.

      As the Food Service Specialist III, working under general supervision, you will plan and oversee the preparation, service and delivery of food for patients. Supervises a shift of Food Service Personnel. Knowledgeable of behaviors and levels of functioning on the varied ages and population.

      Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
      • Organizes, plans and oversees the preparation, service and delivery of food for patients, employees, and guests.
      • Utilizes available resources, calculates present and needed inventory, researches product and recipe yields for product procurement required by Nutritional Services.
      • Inspects food products before, during and after preparation to assure proper methods, palatability, attractiveness and efficiency.
      • Utilizes available resources, supervises and coordinates all associated activities of tray system including plating, portioning, assembly, retherm, distribution and ware wash.
      • Supervises and coordinates cleaning and sanitation of all surfaces, utensils, vessels, and supplies used in food preparation according to all appropriate regulatory guidelines.
      • Supervises and coordinates cleaning and maintaining equipment according to all appropriate regulatory guidelines.
      • Monitors, maintains and documents cafeteria chemical product needs for effective department operations.
      • Supervises and coordinates training activities to assure employee cross training for the best utilization of time and labor resources.
      • Assists with special meals and other functions requiring limited catering for up to three (3) primary events per year.
      • Utilizes available resources, monitors, maintains and documents food storage regulated standards.
      • Maintains competency by mastering required mandatory and non-mandatory in- services or training, such as MAPS, SCEIS modules, infection control, etc.


      State Requirement: A high school diploma and supervisory experience in quantity and quality cooking or baking.

      Agency Requirement: A high school diploma and two years of related experience in quantity and quality cooking, including one year in a supervisory capacity.
