      Are you looking for a role where your knowledge, skills and experiences are utilised in a unique environment? If so, we currently have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Team as Fuel Route Engineer at our Heysham 2 Power Station.

      The Opportunity

      Fuel Route operations contribute 50% of the risk of operating a nuclear power station. The Fuel Route Engineer - A Duly Authorised Person as per BEG/TRNG/AI/A204 (Authorisation Instruction – Fuel Route Engineer) - is a vital role in managing this risk as part of the Operations team in ensuring safe, continued operation by:

      • Ensuring that the nuclear fuel is at all times positively managed as intended by the safety case.
      • Exerting primary command and control over personnel involved with activities which impact on nuclear safety.
      • Exerting positive control over the combined safety critical systems and processes to ensure they remain within the boundaries of the safety case.

      We’re looking for a Fuel Route Engineer to join the team and be responsible for the Control, Monitoring and Operation of Fuel Route and the associated plant in the field. You’ll ensure operations that may affect safety on the reactor are under the control and supervision of suitably qualified, experienced personnel by the operation, monitoring and fault-finding of plant and apparatus of the Fuel Route.

      Whilst primarily a shift role there will be periods of working on days on a rotational basis as a Day Fuel Route Engineer

      What you’ll be doing

      As a Fuel Route Engineer, your duties will include:

      • Exercise professional judgement, relying on integrated systems knowledge.
      • Have knowledge of the relevant safety case(s) and associated Technical Specifications.
      • Apply relevant training and experience.
      • Maintain an overview of activities on the fuel route and provide the necessary coaching and feedback to individuals working on fuel Route plant.
      • In the event of an unexpected plant response relating to reactivity, criticality, or other core conditions, then conservative action will be taken.
      • Assisting the Control Room Supervisor with the release & return to service of Fuel Route plant maintaining compliance with Safety and Environmental standards.
      • Understanding the current plant status and the expected plant operating requirements during the duration of the shift.
      • Perform or supervise the initial investigation or fault finding of plant problems or alarms at the direction of the control room supervisor.
      • Perform or supervise the changeover, isolation including provision of safety from the system, de-isolation, testing and return to service of plant to support the station work week plan.
      • Co-ordinating the appropriate review and comment on the station work week plan to ensure the effective execution of work while working in the WEC.
      • Perform or supervise production or application of defeats of interlock.
      • Assisting the Shift Manager with programmed fuel route activities
      • Perform assigned Emergency plan Roles.

      Who you are

      You’ll be educated to HNC (or equivalent) level in a relevant engineering discipline. Important to the role is having enthusiasm, determination and the ability to influence change and implement solutions; supported by excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills; demonstrating strong self-motivation with a flexible attitude and the ability to lead and motivate others.
