      All faculty positions are non-tenure track, 10-month appointments, primarily hired as Assistant Professor. However, a higher rank may be considered if appropriate.       Assistant or Associate Professor Responsibilities

      The University of Massachusetts Global is seeking a dedicated and experienced Bilingual Education Faculty member to lead the development of a new graduate bilingual education program in the School of Education. The ideal candidate will share a commitment to educating a racially, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse student population. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge and expertise in bilingual education, curriculum design, and accreditation processes. This role requires collaboration with academic and administrative staff, oversight of adjunct faculty, and compliance with accreditation standards.

      The successful candidate will have a strong background in teacher, urban, and bilingual education. This position is expected to work and teach online rather than from a physical campus.       The responsibilities of UMass Global's full-time faculty include teaching, mentoring, and providing service. Research activities are supported but not required. The University is committed to creating and implementing new programs, services, and processes that improve teaching and learning effectiveness. All faculty are expected to:

      • Maintain currency in their discipline and strive to improve their teaching, mentoring, and service competencies;
      • Develop a systematic and comprehensive approach to professional development;
      • Actively participate in establishing, renewing, fostering, and demonstrating the attainment of learning outcomes at the program and course level and
      • Embrace change, particularly technological change, and actively participate in developing, delivering, and assessing high-quality instructional materials utilizing the most current instructional design approaches, engaging teaching strategies, and cutting-edge instructional technologies.

      The Assistant Professor's Key Responsibilities:

      Program Development

      • Design and develop a comprehensive bilingual education program (both at the master and authorization level), including course content, structure, and delivery methods.
      • Conduct needs assessments to identify gaps and opportunities within the existing curriculum.
      • Collaborate with faculty and industry experts to ensure the program meets educational standards and market needs.

      Accreditation Compliance

      • Lead the accreditation process for the new bilingual education program.
      • Ensure the program meets all institutional and external accreditation requirements.
      • Prepare and submit necessary documentation and reports for accreditation bodies.
      • Stay updated on changes in accreditation standards and implement necessary adjustments.

      Curriculum Oversight

      • Develop, review, and revise the curriculum to remain current and effective.
      • Integrate innovative teaching methods and technologies to enhance learning experiences.
      • Ensure curriculum alignment with educational standards and learning outcomes.

      Adjunct Faculty Oversight

      • Recruit, hire, and train adjunct faculty members for the bilingual education program.
      • Provide ongoing support and professional development opportunities for adjunct faculty.
      • Evaluate adjunct faculty performance and provide constructive feedback.

      Administrative and Collaborative Duties

      • Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and other academic functions.
      • Work closely with administrative staff to coordinate program logistics.
      • Foster partnerships with educational and community organizations to enhance program offerings.

      This faculty role will focus on teaching and includes the expectation of service to the institution. Applied scholarship activity is encouraged, though not required.

      Required qualifications include:

      • Education:
        • Doctorate in Education, Bilingual Education, or a related field.
        • Consideration is given to a Master's Degree with extensive experience in Bilingual Education.
        • Experience or understanding of California Teaching Credential (CTC) standards and code requirements.
        • Bilingual Authorization or Teaching certification with 2 years of experience working in a classroom with children and youth teaching English as a Second Language. May include an internship or Volunteer positions held.
      • Experience:
        • At least 5 years of experience in bilingual education or a related field.
        • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and program design.
        • Knowledge of accreditation processes and standards.
        • Experience overseeing adjunct faculty or leading academic teams.
        • Experience meeting the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of schools, teachers, parents, and students through research-based practices.
      • Skills:
        • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
        • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and a second language (preferably Spanish).
        • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
        • Proficiency in educational technologies and learning management systems.

      Preferred qualifications include:

      • Preferred candidates will have a record of excellent teaching skills within a bilingual education graduate program.
      • Commitment to teaching and mentoring.
      • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities.
      • Demonstrated ability to address intersectionality theory in the classroom, particularly with issues relating to power, privilege, and oppression.
      • Experience teaching adult learners in a college environment.
      • Effective record of innovation integrating curriculum and practice with appropriate technologies.
      • Knowledge of UMass Global policies and procedures.

      Salary And Benefits:

      The salary range for this position is determined by various factors, including experience, education, and internal equity. The posted Typical Starting UMass Global Academic salary range establishes the minimum pay based on rank at the time of appointment. This ensures that all compensation decisions align with competitive market conditions and the individual's qualifications, promoting fairness and equity within the organization.

      Typical Starting UMass Global Academic salary range:

      • Assistant Professor: $78,500 - $80,500
      • Associate Professor: $80,500 - $84,500
      • Professor: $90,500 - $94,500

      California State Law requires postings to include the full salary range:

      • Full Salary Range: Assistant Professor: $78,500 - $84,500
      • Associate Professor: $80,500 - $94,500
      • Full Salary Range: Professor: $90,500 - $112,000

      New hires and current faculty are subject to the full salary range for their respective rank. New hires are typically hired within the Typical Starting Academic salary range.
