Job Description

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate
- Teaching Experience (Minimum 3 years preferred), including G/T experience
- Gifted/Talented Supplemental Certificate (preferred)
- Initial Gifted/Talented 30-hour Professional Development required
- Develop and revise gifted and talented curriculum for MISD Level II G/T program (GEM 2.0).
- Able to manage and work with students in multiple grade levels (K-6) from various campuses.
- Adapt the instructional environment to each gifted and talented student's differences, including flexible grouping, choice, expression styles, and multiple learning modalities.
- Nurture the social and emotional development of gifted and talented students.
- Research best practices to meet the needs of gifted and talented students and district learning outcomes.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
- Present the subject matter according to the Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Employ various instructional techniques and media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved.
- Employ the use of technologies in the teaching/learning process.
- Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
- Assess the accomplishments of students regularly and provide progress reports as required.
- Assume responsibility for duties, extracurricular activities, and other outside activities approved by the school.
- Present a positive role model for students that supports the school district's mission.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.

- Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Work with faculty, and encourage student understanding of the student management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.

- Conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and student issues through active communication.
- Develop and communicate guidelines for student conduct.

- Observe professional and ethical standards under generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics.
- Complete all required training, including G/T-required training hours, i.e., the initial 30-hour G/T professional development and annual 6-hour updates.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Attend and participate in division and department meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Function/Purpose
The GEM 2.0 teacher works in an instructional setting with students identified for Gifted/Talented services using district-established criteria. The teacher acts as a facilitator with students and provides them with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help G/T students fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, and social grow
