Job summary
Our GP Assistant will support the smooth running of clinics by performing routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP, freeing up their time to focus on the patient.
You will be assigned a GP Mentor and will follow an accredited training programme leading to award of the GP Assistant certificate more information can be found here: General Practice Assistants |https://www.hee.nhs.uk/our-work/gp-assistant
Main duties of the job
Liaise between patient and doctor as requested
Deal with non clinical patient queries ahead of GP consultations
Liaise with external organisations such as care homes and community nursing teams
Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc as appropriate.
Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes
Supporting with QOF reviews
Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients
Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs and phlebotomy
Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc
Track and record evidence of your experience against the national competency framework.

Work closely, and remain in regular contact with all doctors
Support with IT issues
Liaise between patient and doctor as requested
Deal with non-clinical patient queries ahead of GP consultations

Manage requests for forms and medical reports from external organisations
Manage the practice private fees system
Assist with typing letters and referrals, and arranging patients hospital appointments
Code incoming communication
Ensure GPs mandatory training is up to date by prompting the GPs when training is due
Ensure current/in-date personal paperwork for each GP is on file i.e. MDO certificate, car insurance, DBS certificate
Assist the Operations Manager with GP and Medical Student schedules
Assist the Operations Manager with GP inductions and locum paperwork
Assist the Operations Manager with GP work schedule
Assist the Operations Manager with maintaining practice CQC systems
Suggest and implement improvements to the working and management of the surgery
Any other duties as requested, and as appropriate as the role develops
