      Hereford Road Surgery are excited to be offering the opportunity for a salaried GP to join our popular and friendly practice. We are looking for a GP to join our patient focused team for up to 8 sessions per week, could be split between 2 GPs.

      We are a small, enthusiastic dispensing practice offering services to almost 5,200 patients in the beautiful market town of Abergavenny.

      Main duties of the job

      • Clinical assessment, care and treatment of our patients

      • Associated medical administration including management of test results, referrals, and share of practice clinical administration

      • Support the delivery of care by clinical colleagues

      • Help the practice meet QOF goals

      • Assist with research needs

      About us

      We pride ourselves on our welcoming and professional approach from our whole team which includes 2 GP partners, 3 Salaried GPs, 2 Practice Nurses, 1 Treatment Room Nurse, 1 HCA, LHB Pharmacist, Diabetic Specialist Nurse, Midwife, St Davids Nurse, Drug Support Worker and onsite dispensary. This is all backed up by our efficient reception and admin team.

      Main duties of the job

      Job responsibilities

      In accordance with the practice schedule, you will make yourself available to undertake a variety of duties. These include face to face consultations, telephone consultations, home visits, checking and signing prescriptions, and dealing with queries in a timely fashion.

      • Perform clinical examinations of patients to assess, diagnose and monitor conditions

      • Diagnose and treat various illnesses ailments

      • Liaise with other healthcare professionals e.g., midwives, pharmacists, health visitors, district nurses.

      • Contributing to QOF requirements and recording data appropriately.

      • Developing care plans for health related illnesses.

      • Screening patients for health education.

      • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.

      • Collecting data for audit purposes.

      • Use of EMIS Web.

      About us

      The Surgery is situated conveniently near the centre of Abergavenny, adjacent to the market. There is adequate parking for twenty cars around the building including an accessible parking bay. There are currently three GP Partners, Dr Paul Maslin, Dr Maria Stone and Dr Mary Craig, they are supported by Dr Ruksha Bhadresha, Dr Sarah Williams and Dr Ruth Corbally. We offer a full general practice service and run specialist clinics for children and pregnant women, diabetes and asthma sufferers and for patients needing minor surgery. We also offer an on site dispensing service. At Hereford Road Surgery we aim to treat all our patients promptly, courteously and in complete confidence. The Surgery is staffed by a full complement of nurses, receptionists, dispensary and administrative personnel whose aim is to provide the best possible service in a friendly and efficient manner.

      Job summary:

      The post holder will deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients.

      Clinical responsibilities

      • In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion

      • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation

      • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

      • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

      • Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols

      • Providing counselling and health education

      • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate

      • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards

      • Collecting data for audit purposes

      • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions, avoiding handwritten prescriptions whenever possible.

      • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary or generically, whenever this is clinically appropriate

      • In general, the post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

      • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety

      • A commitment to life long learning and audit to ensure evidence based best practice
