- Assessing the unique medical/genetic and psychosocial needs of individual cases for the purpose of providing appropriate counselling, education, testing options, and follow-up
- Providing clinical teaching to genetic counselling students, medical students, and professional colleagues
- Performing administrative responsibilities to ensure the effective management of individual cases, acting as an advocate for patients, performing cross-functional duties, as assigned or requested
- Performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required
- Depending on level of experience, participate in supervising genetic counselling students, medical students, residents and fellows.
- Participate in weekly academic activities including adult genetic counselling rounds as well as genetics rounds and case review
Qualifications
- Masters degree in Genetic Counselling
- Board Certified or Board Eligible with the ABGC and/or CBGC
- Two years previous experience preferred although new graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and professionals
- Ability to work independently as well as with a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to adapt to a wide variety of patient populations and needs
- Broad-based knowledge and versatility
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance record.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and professionals
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Excellent computer skills

Position
The Genetic Counsellor will be responsible for providing care in our general adult genetics services. This position will include the ability to participate in research activities in addition to the opportunity to participate in student supervision depending on experience.
