Coordinate Administrative duties among internal departments. Assist in preparing and disseminating materials that will represent the Red Cross’ interests before Congress, executive branch agencies and other entities in Washington, DC.
Inform internal stakeholders of bill introductions, amendment filings, regulatory actions, votes and other key developments in Congress and the federal agencies through written and verbal updates.
Monitor and track congressional hearings, legislation and briefings and provide summaries to Government Relations staff and other relevant Red Cross stakeholders.
Conduct policy-oriented research.
Assume leadership role in organizing and planning special events and goodwill campaigns to include Advocacy Day, Holiday Mail for Heroes, Sound the Alarm Campaign and March is Red Cross Month.
Contribute to the development of advocacy plans and help to drive forward the process of executing tasks associated with those plans.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including assisting with e-newsletters.
Managing and scheduling department meetings, events, and other scheduling needs.
Manage the GR department SharePoint site.
Monitor the GR phone line and general Government Relations email inbox.
Support GR internship and volunteer partner recruitment, onboarding, and orientation efforts.
Monitor AI policy on Capitol Hill and with the Administration
Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Candidates should have at least a bachelor’s degree preferable in public policy, political science or a related field.
At least three years of overall experience with at least two years of working experience on Capitol Hill, federal agency or state house.
Strong organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills.

Possesses strong communication skills and is able to utilize various styles and channels such as formal memos, briefings, social media posts, electronic newsletters, etc. Ideal candidate will also be able to best identify the appropriate method of communicating with different audiences.

Knows how to balance competing demands.
Prioritizes well in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
Ability to adapt as projects and issues evolve.
Assist others as needed and be a self-starter who works independently or as part of a larger group.

We are currently seeking a Government Affairs Specialist. This exciting opportunity is based in Washington, DC, and the final selected candidate will be expected to report into our Washington, DC headquarters office. This is not a work from home position.
Through effective legislative and regulatory initiatives, and by focusing on creating a positive public policy environment at all levels of government, the Government Relations Department works to advance the mission and strategic objectives of the American Red Cross.

The Government Relations Department seeks an individual to assist in providing administrative support, organizing special events, and tracking legislative and regulatory issues. We are looking for a Government Affairs Specialist to join a fast-paced, energetic and initiative-taking team of lobbyists and public policy professionals. In this role, ownership of and accountability for planning and executing work across a wide variety of functions is required.
