      Job summary

      We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and friendly individual to join our team as a GP Assistant (GPA). The successful candidate will have a willingness and determination to continually further enhance their skills and knowledge within Primary Care, fulfilling a new role as part of Blackpool North PCN.

      The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to achieve GPA accreditation, by way of a training course lasting 6-9 months, equivalent to 10 credits at Level 4.

      Of note, this vacancy is to work solely at Glenroyd Medical.

      Salary is Band 3-4 (dependent on experience)

      Main duties of the job

      As a GPA, you will support Doctors in the smooth running of the Surgery, by handling the routine administration and some basic clinical duties enabling the GP to focus on the patient.

      Blackpool North Primary Care Network (PCN) comprises of two surgeries, Glenroyd Medical and North Shore Surgery. As a PCN, we work closely to support our patients in streamlining and creating proactive and personalised care, serving a population of approximately 28,000 patients.

      The successful candidate will support a highly-skilled, multi-disciplinary clinical team consisting of Advanced Clinical Practitioners, a designated Visiting Team and First Contact Practitioners, to name but a few.

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      Job Summary:

      A GPA will support the Surgeries smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP, freeing up their time to focus on the patient.

      Job responsibilities:

      Dealing and sorting all incoming clinical post directly.

      Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes.

      Arranging appointments, referrals and follow up appointments of patients.

      Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.

      Dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs and phlebotomy.

      Completing basic forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign, but not limited to, insurance forms, DVLA and DWP forms etc.

      Explaining treatment procedures to patients.

      Helping the GP to liaise with outside agencies eg, getting an on-call Doctor on the pone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue their consultations.

      Support the GP with immunisations.

      Sterilizing equipment.

      Restocking consultation rooms

      Duties will vary from time to time under the direction of the Partners/Practice Managers dependent on current and evolving practice workload and staffing levels.

      The role will also include the opportunity to complete GPA training course, over 6-9 months, which consists of five domains:

      o Care Certificate (clinical)

      o Clinical (clinical)

      o Communications (non-clincial)

      o Administration (non-clinical)

      o Managing Health Records (non-clinical)

      Once completed the GPA will be awarded a GP Assistant Skills Certificate which is equivalent to 10 credits at a Level 4.

      The successful candidate will also be required to perform an enhanced Disclosure Barring System (DBS) check.
