Coordinating administrative activities for the Plant Breeding and Soil/Crop Sciences Fields, ensuring smooth operations and efficient communication.
Supporting the admission and recruitment cycles, assisting in attracting top-tier graduate students to our programs.
Collaborating with other school Graduate Field Coordinators to organize orientations, retreats, and other collaborative activities.
Acting as the primary point of contact for prospective students, addressing inquiries and guiding them through the application process.
Developing, maintaining, and managing graduate student record systems, extracting data for reporting at various levels within the university.
Providing academic advising and counseling to graduate students, offering guidance on Field requirements and assisting with problem-solving.
Upholding the highest level of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive student information.
Cultivating a positive and professional image while maintaining a strong service orientation.
Hold an Associates Degree at least 2 years of experience an administrative position or equivalent combination.
Have the aptitude to handle confidential and sensitive information with utmost discretion and integrity.
Have a demonstrated record of successfully providing exceptional customer service.
Communicate with tact and diplomacy with a wide-range of internal and external constituents.
Be proficient in Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Demonstrate sound judgment, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
Be able to work independently while supporting the efforts of an overall team while fostering a
respectful work environment.
Be accurate in spelling, grammar, proofreading.
Have excellent organizational skills, and the aptitude to work quickly and effectively under pressure and use sound judgment in accomplishing tasks that are urgent
Balance conflicting priorities, and make decisions from a wide range of choices.
Utilize excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
Be flexible and receptive to new ideas and approaches.
Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Prior experience in academic setting helpful and/or supporting academic program activities.
Familiarity with Salesforce.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Employees typically perform this role
remotely 2 days per week and on-campus 3 days per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.This position is based in Ithaca, New York, however, the successful applicant may perform this
role remotely anywhere within the United States. Employees who work remotely may receive
multiple W-2 Forms depending on their work location. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholding for this position. About the CALS School of Integrative of Plant ScienceThe CALS School of Integrative of Plant Science (SIPS) is composed of five sections: Horticulture, Plant Biology, Plant Breeding & Genetics, Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology, and Soil and Crop Sciences. Combined there are 100+ faculty, ~200 undergraduate majors, 200+ graduate students in six Fields, and 600+ other employees located in Ithaca, Geneva, and other satellite locations across the New York State. The School offers the multidisciplinary undergraduate major in the Plant Sciences and is also home to the Agricultural Sciences major. School faculty also contributes to the Biology, Global Development, and Viticulture & Enology majors.
The Opportunity
Are you passionate about supporting graduate education and contributing to the growth of innovative sciences? We are seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join our team as a Graduate Field Coordinator for the Graduate Field of Plant Breeding and the Graduate Field of Soil and Crop Sciences. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in providing essential support to students, the Graduate School, Bursar’s Office, and International Students and Scholars (ISSO) for both Fields. This is a unique opportunity to work within SIPS and directly impact the success of approximately 90 active students across both programs. Your key responsibilities will include:
This is a full-time (39 hours/week) Contract College position that is based in Ithaca, NY. This position follows a 3:2 campus-to-home hybrid work schedule. Work hours will be either 8am-4pm or 8:30am-4:30pm Monday through Friday.
