      The Virtual Preparatory Academy of West Virginia is a K-12 tuition-free online public school in the state of West Virginia. At VPA West Virginia, we empower students to be their best by enabling them to learn in ways that are right for them - using innovative technology at home, at their proper level, and at their own pace.

      The Graduation Coach and Support Specialist primary responsibility is to track, investigate, and document matters related to students in preparation for graduation or students that have been withdrawn from the school for reasons that directly impact our graduation rate. Through internal and external resources, The Graduation Support Specialist will execute an effective plan to ensure that students are on track to graduate and/or the reason for withdrawing is accurately captured by the school.

      Please note - while this is an online school position and all instruction occurs virtually, travel and face to face attendance will be required several times per year to support in person state testing and student events.

      ELIGIBILITY: This position is open to residents of West Virginia.

      About the Opportunity
      • Maintain knowledge of the graduation rate component on the state report card and its impact on the school
      • Track student transcripts to ensure that they are on track for graduation
      • Meet 1on 1 with students to ensure that their PEP plan is up to date and their course progression accurately reflects their credit history
      • Discuss post-graduation plans with all Seniors and assist in
      • Identify students that have been withdrawn for reason codes which impact our graduation rate
      • Utilize state systems (WVEIS) and other resources to research and investigate withdrawn students and determine if their reason for withdrawing is accurately reflected in EMIS
      • Partner with the the State Reporting Administrator to make changes specifically related to the withdrawal reason element
      • Partner with attendance team to ensure truancy is filed on students that have been withdrawn after supportive and preventive measures were taken
      • Collaborate with school districts; families and other external stakeholders to identify the location of students
      • Partner with the Attendance team to monitor and respond to truancy and following WV statute and rule of law
      • Travel to support required face to face state testing annually
      • Perform other duties as assigned

      About You
      • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling, Human Services, or related field of study
      • West Virginia School Counselor license required
      • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite Products
      • Skills to communicate positively and effectively with students, parents, staff, and external partners
      • Knowledge of policies and practices of the school with regard to truancy
      • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly
      • Ability to manage difficult or emotional client situations
      • Ability to make sound judgments after all available information has been gathered or communicated
      • Demonstrates a mature attitude and insight into matters affecting department, self and / or company welfare
      • Excellent written and oral communication skills
      • Ability to work well under pressure, effectively prioritizing and executing tasks to meet deadlines consistently
      • Customer service oriented
      • Ability to learn new technologies and acquire new skills through independent study, professional training, and from more senior team members
      • Prior experience working in a school setting preferred
      • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team
      • Understanding and ability to manage confidential information
      • Ability to lift 25 lbs
      • Ability to pass federal and state criminal background
