      In Scope

      Location: Regina Head Office – This role is eligible for hybrid – this means you’ll have the flexibility of working from home and in the office (in Regina), on a scheduled rotation once probation requirements have been met. Until then, the successful incumbent will be expected to work on-site, full-time.

      Work hours: Full time (Monday – Friday, 36 hours per week)

      The Graphic Designer creates visual concepts to communicate ideas that inspire, inform and influence consumers. They use high standards of design and creativity to design a wide range of materials across all mediums while delivering on the visual design identity and Brand of SGI. In close collaboration with the Communications and Brand teams, they lead art direction, creative development and design execution to support business objectives and advertising initiatives.       KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

      Graphic Design

      • Conceives of and creates visual problem-solving concepts for marketing, and communication-based materials for traditional print and online mediums.

      • Prepares and presents design concept pitches and justification rationales.

      • Provides input into the creative direction and visual identity for the corporation.

      • Ensures graphic and illustrative artwork follows corporate identification standards.

      • Interacts with user departments as required to provide technical advice and guidance, and to ensure assignments are completed as per specification.

      • Reviews proofs to ensure specifications are followed.

      • Researches developments in graphic design techniques and technology.

      • Maintains technical knowledge by attending design workshops, reviewing professional publications; and participating in professional associations.

      Visual Conceptualization and Problem-solving

      • Assesses and defines the type and scope of visual communication required by interviewing clients and collecting relevant information.

      • Review and analyze creative briefs, determine additional information required to conceive visual, story-telling solutions.

      • Liaises with users to identify and prioritize their marketing and/or communication need(s).

      • Researches and creates visual design systems.

      • Liaises with Visual Design management when creating or interpreting corporate design guidelines.

      • Conducts presentations on visual communication and design systems.

      External Vendor Interactions

      • Oversees and coordinates design production with external agencies, printers, photographers, illustrators, and related vendors.

      • Liaises with event coordinators and similar representatives regarding proposed design solution logistics.

      • Assigns work to and provides art direction for freelance photographers, illustrators and similar design-related agents.

      • Provides tender document specifications, review and identify changes in tender results and makes recommendations regarding tender awards.

      • Approves expenditures within established budget and authorized limitations.

      • Reviews invoices from printers and suppliers.

      TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

      • Advanced knowledge of visual communication and design principles.

      • Advanced skill in layout and design using computer hardware and software (i.e. Adobe Creative Suite).

      • Advanced skill in working with industry standard tools, materials and techniques used in graphic design and in the preparation of graphic and/or illustrative artwork.

      • Proficient knowledge of the commercial printing industry.

      EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

      • Two-year diploma from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study such as Visual Communications or Graphic Design, or defined equivalency.

      • Must possess active Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC) certification

      EXPERIENCE

      • 2 – 4 years’ experience in visual communications or graphic design.
