      Hardware Architect

      Overview

      Thales UK provides armed forces with crucial military technology, including sophisticated Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, Targeting Acquisition and Reconnaissance (C4ISTAR) systems.

      The aim: to provide a cohesive, rapid response capability to protect our service personnel and defend national interests.

      We have invested more than £2bn in the UK within the last 10 years and are the second largest defence systems supplier globally.

      Our Maritime Systems Hardware Team which design and develop Autonomous Defence Systems are recruiting for a Hardware Architect. This role is technically responsible for the hardware architecture and its consistency with the solution/system architecture.

      They coordinate with the Solution Architect and Project Design Authority in order to make sure that the top down refinement of the solution is consistent with the hardware strategy and constraints including COTS selection and components reuse.

      This role would suited to Hardware Engineers, or Electronics Engineer with experience of full lifecycle development and are looking to take on more technical responsibility within a unique field.

      The role

      The Hardware Architect works collaboratively with the Hardware Products Manager and Hardware Products Architect to ensure the design is based on existing Products (building blocks) as much as practicable to capitalise on cost benefits, design efficiencies and to reduce technical debt.

      The role operates works within the team allocated to provide the architectural solution and ensure technical compliance of their work with the solution requirements.

      Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

      Ensure that hardware architecture stability is maintained across lifecycle phases from Bid to Delivery

      Direct and coordinate hardware architecture studies

      Approve the technical, technological and methodological choices taken in respect of the selected hardware architecture

      Guarantee adherence to in-scope standards, reuse policy and product development plans

      Identify modelling, simulation and prototyping opportunities

      Co-ordinate product definition and assessment of trade-offs between aspects of cost, customer requirements and technological possibilities

      Prepare the Design & Justification Files

      Provide knowledge on state-of-the-art hardware architecting, taking account of future developments

      Experience

      Level 6 Qualification in a hardware engineering related discipline e.g. BEng(Hons) Electronic or Mechanical Engineering

      Evidence of the ability to architecturally design a solution in line with requirements, including the ability to derive high level requirements

      Ability to collaborate effectively with other engineers to develop a solution

      Knowledge of the Engineering Development Lifecycle with experience in V&V, Requirements, Certification or Qualification.

      Desirable

      Chartered Engineer

      Knowledge of Lean & Agile Development techniques

      INCOSE CSEP

      Model based solution design experience
