Job Description

- Policy & Research Track:
- Research and analyze policies in Texas and nationally to align with the priorities of the host office or official.
- Provide research support, memo writing and help identify best practices.
- Community Affairs Track:
- Implement responsive public service by engaging residents and stakeholders on policy issues.
- Communicate policy priorities though inclusive messaging.
- Communications & Marketing Track:
- Utilize multimedia tools to convey important messages to residents and stakeholders.
- Copy writing, editing, press relations and social media.
- Forensics Track:
- Apply chemistry, biology and scientific methods skills to assist the Harris County Medical Examiner and Law Enforcement in analysis.
- Provide data that could solve criminal cases and offer resolution for victims and their families.
- Potentially, review evidence that could exonerate the wrongfully accused.
- Technology & Data Analysis Track:
- Use coding, technical and cloud-based programs to support operations.
- Manage database, significant data, provide analysis or graphics.
- Senior Programs (Adults 50+) Track:
- Implement educational programs and recreation to keep seniors active and engaged in their community.
- Support event set-up, information gathering and provide a social outlet for seniors.
- Youth Education
- Support, nurture and teach children ages 5 to 12 in summer enrichment.
- Engage in sports, games, recreation, outdoor learning, conservation, field trips, core academic support and/or creative arts and fun with youth.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Applicants must be actively enrolled as students for the ongoing academic year (Fall 2023 and Spring 2024) in a college, university, or dual credit program, having accumulated a minimum of 12 credits towards a degree.
- Additionally, individuals on academic probation are not eligible.

- Skills in organizing and/or program planning.
- Ability to interact with various stakeholders and community members using either written or verbal methods.
- Ability to follow direction and work in collaboration with all levels of management, staff, and other departments.
- Maintain a consistent professional appearance and demeanor.
- Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks to meet goals and objectives.
- General knowledge and skills relevant to your desired Internship Track(s)

- Will generally perform duties in an office setting, though sometimes at external event locations.
- Occasional travel within Harris County
- This role is a standard office role that requires remaining stationary for long periods.

About the Harris County Legislative Internship Program:
The Harris County Leadership Internship Program (HCLIP), led by Commissioner Rodney Ellis, connects young adults interested in leadership development, community and public service career opportunities. HCLIP is designed for youth aged 18 and over pursuing post-secondary opportunities who have an interest in leadership and public service. Harris County, Commissioner Precinct One is looking for Summer 2024 Interns for the Harris County Leadership Internship Program (HCLIP). HCLIP provides internship opportunities for young adults interested in leadership development, community, and public service careers. As a Public Service Intern through HCLIP, you will immerse yourself in local government programs, policies, and issues as you build professional skills for your future career.
