- Maintains the company's health physics policies and procedures during this field project assignment.
- Coordinates radiological air sample performance, documentation, and evaluation.
- Tracks performance and results of all bioassay samples for up to approximately 25 project personnel.
- Tracks submittals and receipt of external dosimetry, results, and records for up to approximately 25 project personnel.
- Provides instruction to others regarding radiological hazards.
- Interfaces with management, customers, regulators, and stakeholders as a health physics/radiation safety subject matter expert.
- Shall have at least a bachelor's degree in health physics or a closely related area of study from an accredited college or university. Master's degree or doctoral degree is preferred.
- Must have a minimum of 2 years of operational health physics experience within the radiation safety field. DOE facility decommissioning, dismantlement and decontamination experience is preferred. Advanced degrees in health physics or a closely related area of study may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required experience. A master's degree may be substituted for one year, while a doctoral degree may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
- Familiarity with DOE 10 CFR 835 and other DOE radiation protection regulations and standards.
- Familiarity with tritium sampling and detection principles. Experience with Liquid Scintillation Counters preferred.
- Position requires HAZWOPER 40-hour qualification with current annual refreshers
- Must be able to gain medical qualification to wear respiratory equipment without limitations in support of project work objectives.
- Must be able to perform work in modified level D and C PPE, including the wearing of respiratory protection.
- Must be able to work in both office and construction site environments, including walking, standing, kneeling, climbing and be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work overtime as required.
- Must be able to perform administrative functions utilizing standard offices suite products including Microsoft® Word and Excel.
- Must have validated skills in performing mathematical calculations, including algebra.

Job Summary
APTIM is seeking an early-career Health Physicist to support facility decommissioning radiological field operations for the Ion Beam Facility DD&R project at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, NM. The Ion Beam Facility consists of two accelerator buildings and an adjacent support building, where the radionuclides of concern are tritium and carbon-14. Primary duties of the Health Physicist will be to assist the Radiation Safety Officer with the management of radiological air samples, dosimetry, and dose estimates.
The Health Physicist candidate should be a professional who can effectively embrace the technical and operational challenges of high profile and critically important field level decommissioning project. The selected candidate is expected to execute the performance of project radiation safety, and its radiological controls and processes to the highest technical and data integrity standards as set forth by APTIM, and project stakeholders.General Responsibilities:
