This position is located within the Research Service Line at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, TX. The Health Science Officer - Director for Research Operations plans, develops and directs the administrative and operational activities of a large and complex research program.Duties

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, ALL applicants must meet the following qualifications requirements:
Basic Education Requirement: Successfully completed a bachelor's degree (or higher) with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application to receive consideration. Education cannot be credited without documentation.

Specialized Experience: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13) in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience is lead or supervisory experience in a research program that included duties such as directing the work of subordinates, managing performance, and reviewing training needs; developing and directing the administrative and operational activities of a research program to include budget/fiscal and/or purchasing/contracting functions; performing complex analytical studies and interpretation of results; and coordinating research projects or clinical studies. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: The work of this position is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort is required such as inspection of facilities.
