Job summary
OPUSS ward is a short stay ward for the care of older people. We aim for patients length of stay on the ward to be less than 72 hrs.
If the length of stay is greater than this then the patient may be transferred to a longer stay older person's ward.
OPUSS Ward has 27 beds arranged in 3 areas with 3 single side rooms. Area A has 9 beds which can be female or male; Area B has 9 beds and 1 side room. Area C has 6 beds and 2 side rooms.
You will be part of a core team delivering personal care to patients and supporting patients self care and independence (where possible).
You will work under the guidance of healthcare professionals such as registered nurses.
Training and supervision in all aspects of care will be provided and you will be supported in undertaking Certificate in Care and NVQ qualifications together with other relevant training.
Previous health care experience is highly advantageous. Manual dexterity and ability to work in a fast paced environment is essential. You will demonstrate care and compassion through good communication, organisational skills and ability to work as part of a team.
Main duties of the job
As a Healthcare Support Worker you will assist in patient care and other ward-related duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The care you give to patients will be compassionate, caring and high quality. You will carry out routine duties, including activities in which the post holder has been assessed as competent by a Registered Nurse. As a member of the ward team you will support the other staff and contribute to a team approach to support with patient care in conjunction with nursing colleagues and all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
