- Numeracy, Literacy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
- Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice, youth work, work with offenders and/or research design and analysis
- Experience working as a psychology assistant (or equivalent).
- Experience working with people with mental ill health or learning disabilities (paid or voluntary).
- Previous involvement in clinical audit, research or service evaluation.
- Experience of using psychometric assessments.
- Experience using statistical software packages e.g. SPSS
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental ill health or learning disabilities.
- An understanding of the application of psychology to health care.
- Understanding of confidentiality.
- Knowledge of the British Psychological Society Code of Conduct.
- Ability to relate therapeutically to the needs of clients and in a way that addresses psychological resistance.
- Ability to work collaboratively with members of the MDT to provide an effective service.
- Utilise psychometric tests competently
- Statistical analysis
- Compassionate in meeting the needs of vulnerable people and their families and carers.
- Able to engage with vulnerable people and work effectively in distressing or emotive circumstances
- Committed to promoting a positive image of people with mental health conditions and/or learning disabilities
- Self-aware and committed to continual personal development. Able to accept and respond positively to feedback from clinical supervision.

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Higher Assistant Psychologist to join our multi-disciplinary CYP Community Eating Disorders Service in Teesside.We operate an assessment, treatment, and consultancy model to ensure that young people and their families receive high quality, safe, effective, evidence-based care encompassing both physical and psychological well-being in line with national guidance around the treatment of eating disorders within the community.
The team provides direct therapeutic work (both individual and family), physical monitoring, consultation, liaison, advice, and training, and works with young people and families affected by eating disorders as well as local partners in the community including schools and primary care. We have also have recently developed a home-based treatment team to provide more intensive community support and reduce the need for inpatient admissions.
The successful applicant will have a first class or upper second-class degree in psychology, and previous experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist. Some previous experience of working with children, young people, and families, or with people with eating disorders would be beneficial.
The post requires travel to various locations within the Trust. We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague who has excellent team working and communication skills.
Main duties of the job
The Higher Assistant Psychologist will be an integral part of the team and the role is primarily a clinical role, although there will also be an expectation that the post holder has an active role in audit and service evaluation. The Higher Assistant Psychologist will also be involved in training and supporting the team in the use of routine outcome measures.
The Higher Assistant Psychologist will be directly involved in assessment and intervention with young people and families, including individual sessions with young people under supervision and involvement in group therapies. The post will offer a breadth of clinical experience, and opportunities to be involved in ongoing service development. The post holder will work under the supervision of the team's Principal Psychologist, and there is a high level of additional support and supervision embedded into the team's way of working.
