      JOB DESCRIPTION

      TITLE: HIM Supervisor

      DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY: The Health Information Management Departments provide many services to our multi-hospital organization including prepping, scanning and indexing, physician deficiency analysis, release of information, medical record maintenance, facility and profee coding, and medical transcription.

      POSITION OVERVIEW: The HIM Supervisor is responsible for overseeing Health Information Management day-to-day operations across multi-hospital and outpatient care settings. This position directly manages caregivers in Health Information Management and may be asked to review and provide feedback on the work of other caregivers.

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

      Oversees day-to-day operations that may include medical records prepping, scanning, & indexing, deficiency analysis, release of information, record retention and storage, transcription, and audits.

      Possesses extensive back-end workers' compensation expertise, particularly in managing and submitting documentation on behalf of both patients and providers.

      Exercises a working knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations as they relate to Health Information Management.

      Ensures that Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are met.

      Performs caregiver evaluations and merit check-ins.

      Conducts interviews and hiring activities as well as caregiver modifications.

      Creates and updates policies and procedures.

      Investigates complaints and prepares responses.

      Monitors productivity and quality.

      Verifies and approves timecards; make timekeeping edits; monitor and review hours worked, vacation and sick hours, and overall attendance patterns.

      Serves as a vendor management liaison.

      Accepts responsibility for project management specific to HIM functions.

      Coordinates workflow for above areas as appropriate.

      Hires, directs, coaches and monitors the performance of all direct reports, to develop and maintain a high performance team that meets organizational and department goals.

      Monitors and ensure all direct reports are current with compliance and safety requirements. Implements and manages all organizational safety directives and goals.

      Provides and oversees team’s delivery of customer service in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient and accurate.

      Ensures compliance with HIPAA regulations.

      Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects.

      Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.

      EDUCATION

      Required: High school diploma or GED.

      Preferred: Minimum of Associates Degree in Health Information Technology , or minimum 5 years equivalent experience.

      LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION

      Required: N/A

      Preferred: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).

      EXPERIENCE

      Required: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a lead, supervisor or acting leadership position in a hospital or large clinic setting. Experience using computerized medical records systems.

      Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

      Intermediate to advanced ability and experience in computer applications, specifically electronic medical records system and Microsoft Office.

      Basic experience in computer applications necessary to record time, obtain work directions, and complete assigned CBL’s.
