      Position Summary

      The Holistic Registered Nurse is responsible for the implementation, coordination, evaluation, and maintenance of the Complementary Alternative Modality and Holistic Nursing Program. As an integral member of the Holistic Care Team, the Holistic Registered Nurse acts as an educator, consultant, facilitator, clinician and resource person. Based on assessed learning needs, the Holistic Registered Nurse collaborates with the Health Care Team to plan, implement and evaluate educational programs related to Complementary Alternative Modalities and Holistic Nursing. Utilizing adult learning theories and current teaching methods, the Holistic Registered Nurse will assist the Holistic Care Coordinator in coordinating the orientation program on the nursing units as well as providing a variety of educational programs and in-services that assist staff members to acquire and maintain performance competencies regarding holistic care. The Holistic Registered Nurse is a role model for nursing and advances in the specialty of Holistic Care and provides leadership and expertise in holistic care at WPH. The Holistic Registered Nurse is responsible for developing and maintaining community outreach in holistic care.

      Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:

      1. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
      2. Provides education to Nursing Division regarding Complementary Alternative Modalities (CAM).
      3. Provides education in Performance Improvement of the Complementary Alternative Modality Treatments.
      4. With the Holistic Care Coordinator, leads monthly team meetings for the operational and administrative functions of the CAM Program.
      5. Provides leadership in the identification of education needs for hospital staff.
      6. Provides training and continuing education for staff.
      7. Assists in the development of clinical practice guidelines/standards in support of quality CAM and Holistic Nursing.
      8. Participates in the development and review of appropriate clinical protocols.
      9. Adheres to the practice of confidentiality regarding patients, families, staff and the organization.
      10. Works with hospital leadership to enhance the CAM program’s community outreach.
      11. Participates in education programs and activities for the CAM program.
      12. Identifies opportunities to improve patient and family experience.
      13. Participates in hospital projects as required/requested
      14. Acts as an educator, consultant, facilitator, clinician and resource person within the Nursing Division and interdepartmentally as appropriate.
      15. Keeps current in JCAHO and 405 State Code requirements.
      16. Participates in ongoing Performance Improvement activities and initiatives as requested/ required.
      17. Works in collaboration with physician colleagues and other CAM team members to deliver quality health care to patients and families.
      18. Assists in the analysis of programs.
      19. Promotes a positive image of the hospital, and the profession of Nursing to the Health Care Team, patients and the community.
      20. Portrays a professional image through appropriate dress and demeanor.
      21. Serves as a role model for staff.
      22. Obtains and maintains specialty certification and license to practice in NYS as a Holistic Nurse.
      23. Communicates effectively with all members of the health Care team.
      24. Participates in committees, task forces, projects, etc. as required.
      25. Submits all other work reports as required/requested by the Director of Nursing.
      26. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

      Education & Experience Requirements

      Current NY State RN License

      BSN Required

      Master’s Degree in Holistic Nursing Preferred

      BLS required

      Advanced Holistic Nurse Certification within 1 year of hire

      Minimum of 5 years acute care

      • May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
      • Position requires ability to move about freely at least 85 per cent of the time.
      • Must be able to remain stationary for extended/prolonged periods
      • Sometimes moves/transports objects up to fifty (50) pounds and must be able to move patients of all weights with

      a minimum of one (1) assist or assistive device/equipment

      • Must be able to work in environment with continuous interruptions
      • Must be able to assess and respond to rapidly changing situational needs of patients, department and hospital
      • Must be able to adapt in a high stress and fast-paced environment with multiple interruptions
      • Must be able to detect sounds and respond to emergency sounds/signals at all times
      • Must be able to constantly operate computer, equipment and other devices
      • Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruptions and attend to tasks for more than sixty (60)

      minutes at a time.

      • Individual must be able to understand and relate to theories behind several related concepts and remember

      multiple tasks given during the course of a day.
