What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Accurately code inpatient conditions and procedures according to ICD guidelines and UHDDS
- Assign appropriate MS-DRG or APR-DRG for complex, multi-specialty inpatient services
- Review and analyze medical record documentation to ensure proper coding
- Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists on documentation and DRG assignments
- Assist in preparing responses to DRG validation requests and third-party payer inquiries

What is Required (Qualifications):
- Minimum Required: AHIMA or AAPC approved Medical Coding Diploma or Health Information Management Degree or related program
- Minimum Required: Three years of progressive inpatient coding experience in an acute care facility
- Active credential of Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) required at time of hire
- Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding guidelines
- Advanced problem-solving skills and attention to detail

How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience with electronic health record systems
- Academic or Level I or II trauma experience
- CIC (Certified Inpatient Coder) credential from AAPC
