      Position Information

      Title: Assistant Vice President of Human Resources
      Division/Office: Finance & Facilities / Human Resources
      Status: Full time, Exempt, May require work on weekends and evenings
      Classification: Admin II

      This position reports to the Senior Vice President & CFO

      Position Summary

      Reporting to, and at the direction of the Senior Vice President & CFO, the Assistant Vice President of Human Resources oversees the administration of human resources benefits and programs including, but not limited to; compensation management, healthcare, occupational health and leave management, disciplinary matters and disputes, performance and talent management, employee recognition, human resource information systems and records management, and the coordination of training and development. The Assistant Vice President of Human Resources plans and leads the activities of the HR staff, to assist in fulfilling the mission of the institution and ensuring compliance.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      • Plans the work of, supports, and provides leadership and guidance to the HR Generalists in their delivery benefits and programs, to the institutions employees.
      • Work to optimize employee engagement by advising and supervising the implementation and administration of employee benefits programs, providing excellent customer service, automating processing systems, communicating information about programs and services to employees and to all levels of management throughout the institution. Collaborates with senior leadership to understand the institution’s goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention, and identifies and implements strategies to achieve the stated goals.
      • Monitors and ensures the organization's compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance and ensures consistent and equitable application across the institution.
      • Serves as a high level internal consultant regarding complex personnel management issues. Partners with leadership across the institution, to create appropriate solutions to unique problems or challenges. Serves as a consultant to managers and provides guidance for all matters related to discipline, terminations, and staff disputes.
      • Develops, implements and monitors departmental budget.
      • Represents the department and serves as a resource by participating on various University committees as appointed.
      • Manages relationships with vendors providing HR services and benefits.
      • Facilitates a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
      • Performs special projects for the Senior Vice President & CFO and other senior leaders as assigned.

      Qualifications

      Education

      • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
      • SHRM or HRCI certification preferred

      Experience and Skills:

      • Five years Human Resource Generalist experience
      • Demonstrated proficiency in the administration of HR benefits and programs including; compensation management, healthcare, occupational health and leave management, disciplinary matters and disputes, performance and talent management, employee recognition, human resource information systems and records management.
      • Demonstrated proficiency in supervision of staff employees
      • Management experience preferred
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
      • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
      • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
      • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
      • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
      • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
      • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and maintain confidentiality.
      • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
      • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite or related software.
      • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems; experience with ADP Workforce Now a plus.
      • Duties involve working in a community and office setting and requires intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines and declines.
      • Must be able to lift 20lbs, traverse the campus with ease, climb a lot of stairs, have excellent motor skills and be able to sit or stand for 30 minutes at a time. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

      Physical Requirements

      Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

      Other requirements:

      • This is a full time, exempt position. Forty hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required. Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and have a varying schedule when required
      • Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required
      • Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner
