      The University of Arizona’s Division of Human Resources (HR), in partnership with the College of Education (COE), invites qualified HR professionals to apply for the position of HR Generalist III. The successful candidate will provide HR services and consultation to employees and management under the guidance and supervision of the Sr. HR Partner and in collaboration with the COE Senior Leadership. The HR Generalist will be responsible for recruitment/employment, classification/compensation reviews, leave administration, employee relations/performance management, career development and training for employees and management. This position will also be responsible for developing, recommending, establishing, and communicating human resource services, programs, policies and procedures aligned with the Division of HR's Client services Model to meet the needs of the COE.

      Duties & Responsibilities

      Strategic:

      • Advises on HR policies, procedures, and best practices, while co-creating and developing new best practices
      • Communicates and creates training for college and COE Human Resources team
      • Presents high quality training and development sessions
      • Participates in College team meetings and advises on HR policies, procedures, and best practices, while co-creating and developing new best practices with the unit.
      • Communicates training offerings from the Office of Learning and Development to assist College in delivery of employee and management training and development programs.
      • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of HR policies, practices, and management to supervise, review, and approve work of team members.

      Employee Relations, Organizational Culture, Compliance:

      • Fosters effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and administrators.
      • Works with supervisors and employees to support productive conversations and resolution to concerns, including support in writing corrective action memos and other supporting documentation.
      • Consults with supervisors and college leadership on performance management issues such as career conversations and corrective actions.
      • Responds to inquiries on policies or procedures related to employee concerns.
      • Working with the Sr. HR Partner, provides guidance and support for inquiry or investigation to ensure appropriate referral (i.e. OIE, DRC, Risk Management) and follow through to resolve the concern.
      • Manages leaves and retirement process for employees in accordance with University policies.
      • Liaison for employee relations concerns, conducting initial meetings with supervisors regarding concerns, and working under the guidance of the Sr. HR Partner, to provide support for inquiry or investigation to ensure appropriate referral and follow through to resolve the concern.
      • Oversees Emeritus status processing for faculty retirees.
      • Fill in and support team members out of the office and during high volume times.
      • Collaborates on teambuilding and college culture boosting initiatives.

      Compensation:

      • Provides direction and guidance to unit leaders and management to ensure planning and changes are aligned with University Compensation Guidelines and policies.
      • Works with unit leaders and business managers to ensure the planning stages of compensation proposals such as new or replacement positions, career progressions, market and equity salary adjustments, supplemental compensation, etc. are within budget and consistent with college policies, and University Compensation Guidelines.
      • Identifies gaps where compensation practice may not align with guidelines and policy and includes Sr. HR Partner and
      • Compensation Team to support mitigation of concerns.

      Employee Recruitment & Student Hiring:

      • Using effective and creative strategies, collaborates to ensure that recruitment and hiring processes comply with university policies/guidelines and state/federal laws/regulations.
      • Highly proficient in utilizing Talent and UAccess Employee to create positions, provide position distributions, and create and manage job postings through the offer letter/hiring and applicant dispositioning steps.
      • Collaborates with college to ensure successful new employee orientation and onboarding.

      Student Worker Recruitment & Hiring:

      • Proficient in utilizing Handshake student worker system.
      • Partners with units to recruit and hire student workers in alignment with College and University best practices.

      Data Management:

      • In collaboration with HR Workforce Systems and the HR Client Services Team HR Assistant(s), supports the annual roll-over process including coordination with supervisors on continuation of employee funding, renewal of Designated Campus
      • Colleagues (DCC’s), and other year-end processes.
      • Reports and analyzes HR metrics such as hiring, turnover, and employee relations trends.
      • Track Visa expiration dates and check in with units regarding Visa holders in their area regarding extension process on all Visa types. Work with units in partnership with International Faculty & Scholars, Compliance & Contracts on questions related to Visa application and/or permanent residency packet when needed.
      • Assists with administration of UAccess, Talent, Handshake and other systems activities.
      • May have approval authority for some transactions.
      • Works with UAir, COE Tech Team, COE Faculty Affairs, and the COE Business Team to run various reports and agents in Analytics for College leadership, and for managing process improvements (e.g. having new employees enrolled in direct deposit in a timely manner, ensuring new employees have signed up for benefits, students are enrolled in the minimum number of credits to be eligible for employment, off boarding, vacation carry forward)

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

      • Knowledge of and skill in applying the principles, practices, and procedures of human resources administration in the areas of recruitment and employment, compensation and classification, employee relations, and employee development and training in higher education.
      • Knowledge of and skill in interpreting and applying state and federal statutes and applicable rules and regulations related to the management of human resources.
      • Skill in facilitating meetings and delivering presentations.
      • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced work environment.
      • Ability to effectively communicate.
      • Skilled in professional writing.
      • Ability to effectively lead and supervise, review, and approve work of team members.
      Minimum Qualifications
      • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
      • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
      Preferred Qualifications
      • Three or more years HR Generalist experience.
      • Experience working with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and Applicant Tracking systems (ATS).
      • Experience working at the University of Arizona.
      • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP certificates.
      • Experience Working with UAccess Employee (PeopleSoft), Analytics (Oracle Business Intelligence), and Talent.
      • HR experience working with faculty and staff in a university or college setting.
      • Knowledge and experience in researching and advising on UHAP and University Staff policies.
      • Knowledge and experience in researching and advising on ABOR employee policies.
      • Experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoints, Teams) and cloud-based systems such as Box and Google Drive/Docs/Sheets.
      • Experience in working with a diverse population.
