Infectious Disease SUPERVISORY PHYSICIAN EXPECTATIONS
1. Roles and Responsibilities · Supervising Physician: Oversee clinical activities, provide guidance, and ensure compliance with medical standards.
· Nurse Practitioner: Deliver patient care under the supervision of the physician, following established protocols.
2. Communication · Regular Meetings: Schedule weekly or bi-weekly meetings to discuss patient cases, updates, and any concerns. · Documentation: Maintain clear and thorough documentation of all communications and decisions made.
3. Patient Care · Initial Assessment: The nurse practitioner conducts the initial patient assessment and develops a preliminary care plan. · Review and Approval: The supervising physician will be responsible for monthly/quarterly audits to ensure nurse practitioner adherence to established procedures and protocols.
4. Clinical Procedures · Standard Procedures: Follow established protocols for common procedures and treatments. · Special Cases: Consult with Nurse Practitioner for complex or unusual cases.
5. Education and Training · Training Sessions: Conduct regular training sessions to address new protocols, technologies, and treatments.
6. Quality Assurance · Audits: Perform regular audits of patient records and care plans to ensure compliance with protocols. · Feedback: Implement a feedback system for continuous improvement.
7. Emergency Protocols · Immediate Consultation: In case of emergencies, the nurse practitioner should immediately consult the supervising physician. · Emergency Procedures: Follow established emergency procedures and protocols.
8. Legal and Ethical Compliance · Regulations: Ensure all activities comply with state and federal regulations. · Ethical Standards: Adhere to the highest ethical standards in patient care and professional conduct
