- Develops, plans, and implements services and programs on evidenced-based teaching practices (e.g., conferences, workshops, seminars, resources).
- Provides individual, group, and unit-level consultations as assigned.
- Engages with departments to identify instructional challenges and potential solutions.
- Supports and participates in university teaching initiatives.
- Contributes to the Drake Institute’s repository of educational development materials (e.g., workshop materials, literature reviews, teaching guides).
- Serves on selected university committees on teaching and learning.
- Contributes to university, state, and national dialogue and innovation on college teaching.
- Tracks and reports on educational development work.
- Assists with conducting needs assessments and responds with resources, services, and programming.
- Collaborates in determination of events to be undertaken and in program development.
- In consultation with Drake Institute leadership, determines and defines project scope and objectives.
- Recommends resources that can help reach project objectives.
- In consultation with Drake Institute leadership, develops and manages a detailed project schedule and work plan.
- Monitors projects and adjusts as needed.
- Provides project updates on a consistent basis to stakeholders about each project, adjustments, and progress.
- Participates in and supports Drake Institute program assessment and evaluation.
- Engages in continual professional learning to maintain and strengthen knowledge and skills.
- Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree sought
- At least two years of demonstrated experience as an instructional designer, instructional consultant, or faculty developer
- Demonstrated excellence in accessibility, equity, and/or inclusion in higher education and ability to work effectively with diverse populations
- Demonstrated expertise and success in evidence-based teaching practices.
- Teaching experience in higher education contexts
- Demonstrated knowledge of backward course and curriculum design
- Demonstrated experience assessing the needs for, developing, and facilitating in-person, synchronous, and asynchronous professional learning programming
- Demonstrated project management and problem-solving skills
- Resourcefulness, creativity, and adaptability
- Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and as part of a dynamic team
- Doctoral degree
- Experience developing, implementing, and assessing professional learning programming
- Experience working in a center for teaching and learning
- Experience designing Expected Learning Outcomes Assessment
- Experience supporting grant-funded and scholarly initiatives
- A letter of interest describing why you are interested in the position, why you are a good fit for the position based on your experience, and an overview of your past and/or planned future contributions to advancing teaching excellence among faculty, staff, and graduate students.
- A current and comprehensive resume or curriculum vitae.

The Drake Institute’s Instructional Consultant will join a team of professionals who coordinate and conduct consultations, programs, and workshops on evidence-based instructional strategies, learning assessments, and course design for faculty, staff, and graduate students. This consultant will also be attentive to supporting evidence-based teaching practices that foster accessibility, as well as student well-being, sense of belonging, and academic excellence. The Instructional Consultant participates in Drake Institute and university teaching initiatives; engages in project management; collaborates on program design and delivery; and conducts needs assessments for professional learning related to instruction. The successful candidate is to discuss in their cover letter a statement that describes their past and/or planned future contributions to advancing teaching excellence among faculty, staff, and graduate students.Duties/Responsibilities
