- Assist in the overall administration and coordination of an on-site Apprenticeship program at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard (PHNSY). Courses offered are custom designed and scheduled around the PHNSY Apprenticeship program.
- Provide instructional, academic and student support services on-site at the PHNSY.
- Under the direction of the Dean of Transportation & Trades, working closely with the Dean of Arts and Sciences, program liaisons and/or division chairs, ensure the recruitment of instructors from the various programs are done on a timely manner. Ensure identified instructors are able to teach within the scheduled structure of PHNSY Apprenticeship program.
- Coordinate schedules and classroom assignments by working with Arts and Sciences and Tech I divisions program liaisons and/or division chairs.
- Responsible with the admissions process and registration for all incoming students. Develop and review materials that are sent to incoming students. Revise materials as appropriate due to programmatic changes, policy changes, etc.
- Develop & maintain a record system to track students who are accepted into the program or a wait/back up list of prospective students. Check on wait/back up list & ensure that students are provided w/ability to enroll &/or contact students w/results.
- Administer an instructor evaluation report system, including development and preparation of periodic reports for the College and PHNSY to ensure programmatic needs are being met per standards of the program.
- Assist in the development of assessment instruments and the collection of data to be used in evaluating the program.
- Respond to inquiries and requests from PHNSY, Honolulu Community College (HonCC) personnel and the general public.
- Provide information about the PHNSY Apprenticeship program as needed. Work closely with PHNSY officials and partners on all matters relating to recruitment efforts for the program. Prepare informational program materials to publicize the program and maintain a distribution database, to also include HonCC graduation announcements and working closely with PHNSY Apprenticeship program apprentices with completing graduation requirements for the College.
- Participate in organizing the preprocessing of all new prospective apprentices. Ensure technical accuracy of documentation in compliance with College admissions and health policies and procedures are being met.
- Evaluate student records. Work closely with PHNSY academic counselor when it comes to advising prospective students about admissions policies and program requirements, course schedules, financial aid, and VA benefits.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of placement testing of prospective students for the program as directed by the PHNSY officials and partners.
- Coordinate and lead HonCC’s portion of the PHNSY Apprenticeship program New Student Orientation.
- Coordinate and lead HonCC’s PHNSY Instructor Orientation. Assist PHNSY instructors with the applicable information needed for security clearances and base pass access.
- Recommend revision to procedures and guidelines as they relate to admissions, testing and registration.
- Compile student grades for each semester accompanied by a statistical analysis for PHNSY Apprenticeship program.
- Coordinate the HonCC and PHNSY Apprenticeship program partner meetings each semester or on an as needed basis. Work closely with PHNSY Apprenticeship program officials and partners regarding any student related meetings and other meetings needed for the program.
- Assist instructors when it comes to program and course assessment; assist in institution level assessment.
- Participate in department, partner and division meetings.
- Related work activities include, but are not limited to, course scheduling, program budgeting, maintaining program articulation agreements, assisting in campus-related student activities; participating in faculty/administrative committees, campus and community service, and in-service training; maintaining an approved program of professional self-development; independently planning, organizing, and carrying out instructional and non-instructional assignments, and in collaboration with the Dean, Division Chair, faculty and staff.
- Instructional assignments may involve distance education.
- Must maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught. Must be available for evening, weekend, and off-campus assignments (e.g. military bases, attending recruitment events.) To teach on a military base, Department of Defense security clearance will be required.

- Master’s degree in any field or discipline offered at the college;
- OR Bachelor’s degree in any field or discipline offered at the college plus three years of related work experience;
- OR Associate’s degree in any field or discipline offered at the college plus five years of related work experience;
- OR 15 college credits plus seven years of related work experience including training.
- Minimum qualifications must be met by the effective date of appointment. If no qualified applicants are available, those not meeting the minimum qualifications may be considered as acting instructor appointment.
- Ability to work with a variety of colleagues from other disciplines, student support services and industry partners to help accomplish goals of the program.
- Evidence of successful teaching in a community college setting or post-secondary level.
- Experience in developing/modifying college level courses.
- Experience in working with diverse, multiethnic student populations.
- Possess supportive attitude toward student learning and be able to create a nurturing classroom environment for students of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Demonstrated success serving as a mentor, advisor, or team leader.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to function independently and as a member of a team.
- Experience in use of technology to support instruction and student success, including but not limited to LMS, CRM, Early Alert and presentation software.
- A willingness to adapt to new technology platforms as needed for student and program success.
