      Onsite from the Fontana, CA plant


      This position is an internship program aimed at supporting the Engineering and Maintenance teams through equipment and component drawing optimization and management as well as optimization of parts and components within our storeroom. Through this internship, you will develop process knowledge, develop wider understanding of component assemblies, and turn your in-class learnings into hands-on experience working with the team.

      To be effective in this role, the person should be a detail-oriented individual looking to start building their engineering career here at James Hardie. This internship provides an opportunity for future career development post-graduation.

      What you’ll do:

      Digital documentation optimization:

      • Partner with Engineering including the central team, Maintenance, and R&D to collect and organize existing drawing documentation for the Fontana site.
      • Collaborate with various teams to document and note drawings effectively
      • Execute uploading documents into the central repository

      Storeroom optimization:

      • Partner with the Engineering and Maintenance Team to optimize our storeroom
      • Develop an appropriate plan working with the maintenance team to ensure value improvement for the team
      • Scope includes reorganizing parts and components to effective prework job kitting
      • Pitch the plan to the leadership team then execute on your plan

      Process knowledge development:

      • Partner with the Engineering and Operations team to begin to understand how high throughput Fiber Cement manufacturing works
      • Understand process flow, bottlenecks, and process optimization through first-hand experience utilizing LEAN principles

      What you’ll bring:

      • In pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
        • Mechanical, Electrical, Polymer Science, Paper Science, or Chemical
      • Minimum 2.8 GPA, must be at least a Junior
      • Experience working in 2D & 3D CAD software (Autodesk preferred)
      • Knowledge with reading drawings or blueprints
      • Willingness to improve processes through a structured approach
      • Hands-on mindset

      • High attention to detail
      • Driven and self-motivated
