      The Integration Architect (Cerner) reports directly to the Director of Clinical Applications and is responsible for providing expert domain knowledge to the product management teams for the Cerner Millennium enterprise solution. This role demonstrates proficiency in understanding the application functionality, reporting capability, interfacing and integration associated with clinical applications assigned. Serves as the integration champion across applications and interfaces providing system, process, and problem resolution expertise. Plans, oversees and validates the integration of clinical information application analysis, build and testing processes with other clinical and non-clinical applications. Work ranges from conceptual and strategic to tactical and includes integrating current architectures and initiatives.

      Cerner System Responsibilities:

      • Assist in developing the ongoing system architecture plan and implementation strategy.
      • Participate in identifying and resolving global design issues.
      • Provide consultation on process design alternatives and decisions.
      • Assist in managing quality assurance and risk issues.
      • Domain planning and management, including regression testing after domain copies and code installations.
      • Serve as the integration expert across solutions and interfaces, providing troubleshooting, process expertise and guidance.
      • Comply with Corporate and Department policies and procedures.
      • Work in accordance with corporate and organizational security policies and procedures; understands personal role in safeguarding corporate assets.

      Coordinates and implements upgrades and updates and calls vendor support when necessary to coordinate appropriate resources by:

      • Resolving complex systems problems and leading post-problem reviews. Also, documenting findings and leading improvement initiatives.
      • Developing training materials and ongoing procedure documentation.

      Maintains knowledge, skills and competence in areas of responsibility and keeps abreast of current trends and developments in network software and hardware technologies by:

      • Keeping ahead of clinical application trends and helping to design system future state (which includes design and support).
      • Attending in-services and Department meetings; also participating in continuing education and attending conferences and other related educational programs.
      • Maintaining professional affiliations as appropriate.
      • Reading current professional literature and journals.

      Contributes to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the Department by:

      • Providing excellent customer service at all times. Also communicating with customers and other staff in a courteous, responsive and helpful manner.
      • Preparing reports for management on the status and utilization of the Cerner systems.
      • Following and enforcing change management policies and standards.
      • Assisting with the care and maintenance of Department facilities, equipment and supplies.
      • Working cooperatively with other Department staff on a variety of projects.
      • Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as assigned.

      Education and Experience

      • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Associate's degree (Bachelor degree preferred) in Computer Science, Application Management, or other technology related field. Three to five years of related experience in building, supporting and establishing complex application systems is required. Minimum of one year of Architect experience with Software Engineering or equivalent experience. 2 years of hands-on experience as a clinical application analyst within an information services department of a multi-entity acute care health system.

      Knowledge & Skills

      • Hands on clinical applications management experience. End-to-end project lifecycle experience including business case definition, requirement and architecture.
      • Requires the analytical and problem-solving skills needed to effectively support and integrate a diverse computer system user population and act as an ongoing technical resource in system utilization and selection.
      • Demonstrates good organization and project management skills, detail orientation and the ability to work independently.
      • Requires a solid understanding of departmental operations and how they interact with each other in a computerized environment.
      • Demonstrates the communication skills (both verbal and written) necessary to communicate effectively with the staff (at all levels) from end-user departments and also provide effective training.
      • Demonstrates experience in structured enterprise architecture, including definition of standards and guidelines for application design, implementation and ongoing support across a broad spectrum.
      • Demonstrates the leadership skills necessary to elicit cooperation and support from other staff.
      • Ability to effectively and timely address business issues and conflicts in a professional, constructive, and nontechnical manner.
      • Proven track record in the development and deployment of programmatic assessment and adoption of emerging technologies.
      • Understanding of change management techniques, with the ability to apply them.

      Working Conditions

      • Works in an office environment; however, work is sometimes performed in small, cramped areas.
      • Work is performed in a fast-paced environment requiring the ability to prioritize workload in order to meet deadlines.
      • Some after-hours installation and network support activities are required. Requires carrying a pager 24 hours a day/seven days a week.

      Physical Demands

      • Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e., to lift, hold and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, use common computer hand tools, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position (for example, wire running and installing hardware in racks).
