- Advise users with a security risk on appropriate course of action and pick up submitted tickets that are security related.
- Escalate the security incident to the appropriate individuals with the necessary skills to manage/oversee.
- Troubleshooting issues to help identify root causes accurately.
- Pick up compromised endpoints or other hardware related to security issues
- Support the IT Security Analyst with the following tasks:
- Verify elevated privileges annually for training.
- Support the Payment Card Industry (PCI) annual audit. Work with department staff to follow PCI guidelines to meet best practices.
Research, verify policies, and support Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) audit change findings and new standards.- Update the Incident Response Plan as directed.
- Assist with completion of Nationwide Cybersecurity Review (NCSR) self-assessment, security insurance, State of Oregon Capability Assessment and other related tasks as assigned.
- Monitor alerts.
- Assist with software reviews.
- Performs related and other duties as assigned.
- May perform other general duties within the PC Network Technician 2 classification.
- Five years’ progressive and recent experience in maintenance, computer service calls, and daily hands-on repair of computers and peripheral equipment.
- Virtual private network and wireless experience is required.
- One year in a lead role is preferred.
- Depending on position, two years of computer related purchasing experience is preferred.
- A two year technical degree from an accredited school or college in a computer systems field.
- Personal computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment; such as central processing units, servers, monitors, cables, network systems, printers, and modems;
- Testing analysis techniques;
- Current technology related to City wide applications, networks and telecommunications and the equipment and software required to maximize system use;
- Training techniques to explain complex and technical concepts and procedures to non-technical users.
- Various application programs.
- Virtual private network (VPN), Local area and wide area networks (LAN/WAN) and wireless systems;
- Installing, configuring, and upgrading computer operating systems, software and applications;
- Instructing users on new and existing computer applications and hardware;
- Troubleshooting, analyzing, and solving complex technical issues;
- Using various power and manual tools and equipment standard in computer equipment repair;
- Coordinating and executing multiple tasks and/or projects to meet deadlines and addresses potential work delays and problems in a professional and timely manner.
- Providing courteous customer service and effectively working with co-workers, employees, contractors, and design professional representing various diverse backgrounds.
- Effectively communicating both orally and in writing to convey information and to receive work assignments.
- Adapting to a fast paced and changing environment.
- Adapting to the City’s culture, priorities, and ability to adjust to the differing organizational structures, leadership and work styles.
- Proficiently using computers and related software applications, online tracking systems, Internet research tools, reporting applications and various databases.
- Coaching and motivating co-workers and staff on communicating effectively, adhering to safety standards, providing excellent customer service, and producing quality results.
The Information Services Division at the City of Eugene is recruiting for an IT Security Support Specialist
This position supports the IT security team in a variety of functions. Embedded with the Service Desk the role performs tasks and works on projects including taking ownership of security tickets for the Service Desk and follows up with users on security and other related issues. This position reports directly to the IT Security Analyst.

Must reside in the state of Oregon and be able to report onsite in Eugene, OR for work as needed.

PC Technician 2 – This is the fully skilled journey level in the PC Technician classification. Employees in this classification have the full set of technical knowledge and skills to work independently in the assigned area(s) and receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise. Rotating lead worker duties will be assigned at the PC Technician 2 level.
