      Florida Blue is seeking 2024 summer IT interns

      The IT Summer Internship program is focused on providing college juniors, seniors, and graduate students exposure into Florida Blue’s business processes and the IT systems that support them. Interns will gain hands on experience working on relative projects and initiatives that support our IT organization. In addition, interns will have on the job training and partner with a mentor and leader in the IT field specific to their assigned track.

      Applicants will have the opportunity to choose from one of the 10 offered tracks:

      Generative AI:
      Interns in the Generative AI track will have the unique opportunity to gain hands on experience with developing, fine-tuning, evaluating, and deploying generative AI models to help solve complex business problems at GuideWell. Interns will work closely with business and IT stakeholders to communicate AI capabilities and integrate solutions into our organization’s workflow to drive efficiency and innovation. Candidates should have skillsets acquired through coursework or experience such as natural language processing (NLP), proficiency in programming languages such as Python with relevant frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch, knowledge of machine learning and deep learning fundamentals, data manipulation, and statistical analysis as well as a strong interest in generative AI.

      Infrastructure:
      Interns will focus on monitoring, installation, configuration, debugging, administration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of technology solutions. Interns will also be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining policies, procedures, and programs to ensure the security and integrity of company data, databases, information systems, and technology. To be successful in this role, the intern should demonstrate proficiency and experience in design, implementation, monitoring and/or troubleshooting technology.

      Cloud Services:
      Interns will research, design, and support Cloud Services. Areas of focus will include infrastructure as code, networking, automation, data storage, and security using Amazon Web Services and/or Microsoft Azure. To be successful in this role, the intern should be a self-started with a willingness to learn.

      Front End Development and Innovation:
      Interns will focus on creating new innovative designs, front-end prototype applications and exploring new technology and development capabilities for Florida Blue. They will need to leverage their skills learned through college courses, personal experiences, and creative outlets to design solutions that bring value to the business. To be successful in this role, the intern should be creative and up to date on current technology trends. Experience with basic web development and design and/or any other general programming such as Python or Swift is highly preferred.

      Cybersecurity:
      Interns will work with one of the top cybersecurity organizations in the country and be given the opportunity to work with highly skilled red-team and blue-team members on real-world issues and projects. In addition, interns will gain exposure into multiple security frameworks and an accelerated integrated risk management program. Interns should show a willingness to learn and to increase their understanding of information security concepts, principles, and solutions.

      Application Development:
      Interns will focus on the development of new applications with basic programming knowledge of JavaScript/HTML/CSS or other Object-Oriented programming experience and database concepts. Interns should have excellent written and verbal communication skills to aid them in the development of applications and the requirements gathering process. Interns will be expected to leverage their skills learned through college courses, personal experiences, and creative outlets to design solutions that bring value to the business. To be successful in this role, the intern should be creative, team-oriented, and up to date on current technology trends.

      Data Science/Analytics:
      Interns will work on real business problems and with publicly available datasets. Interns will focus on learning and applying Data Science techniques such as Data Wrangling, Model development and Visualization. Interns must have basic level skills in SQL, R and/or Python to be used over the course of the program. Additionally, interns will be focused on data analytics, business intelligence and data quality assessment for Florida Blue. The intern should be passionate and inquisitive, a quick learner, and an expert “Googler”.

      Behavioral Sciences:
      Interns will work with senior members of the team to leverage data and behavioral science insights to improve the well-being of our members, address specific business issues, and formulate insight-based recommendations linked to strategic and financial outcomes. Interns will contribute to literature review, data analysis, experimental design (A/B testing), survey design, creation and implementation of recommendations. A successful candidate should have a background or coursework in psychology/decision science/behavioral economics/data science and demonstrate a positive, innovative, open mindset and a desire to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams. Candidates should be proficient in Excel and PowerPoint, and knowledge of R or Python is a plus.

      Project Analyst:
      Interns will work with senior-level team members in the role of Project Analyst. The focus will be on learning the ‘soft skills’ required in communication, meeting management, prioritizing and organizing work, and emotional intelligence. In addition, they’ll experience basic elements of planning techniques using both Waterfall and Agile methodologies. Interns will be exposed to tools used in Project Management, real-world issues and risks, various types of meetings (planning, problem-solving, Agile events), and the financial aspects of budgeting for projects. A successful candidate will be familiar with the fundamentals of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Project Management as defined in the PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge), and the Agile methodology. Willingness to learn, ask questions, and keep an open mind are essential.

      Business System Analyst:
      Interns will work with business partners to define and document detailed business requirements, collaborate with software developers, product owners, and testers to support an end-to-end capability from concept to production-deployment. They will offer post-production support, respond to business and end user inquiries, and troubleshoot to determine root cause for application defects. Interns will enable stakeholders to make effective decisions by gathering information from multiple sources and compiling it into an actionable format and successfully communicating that information.

      In addition to their day-to-day responsibilities, interns will have exposure to our IT Command Center and World Class Data Center, as well as meet with leaders from Information Security, Data Analytics, Behavioral Science, and our Software Development teams. Interns will meet with Executive IT Leadership throughout the program, as well as present to various IT Vice Presidents at the program’s conclusion.

      The IT Summer Internship also serves as a bridge to full time employment for interns who will have completed their bachelor’s degree or who are enrolled in a master’s degree at the conclusion of the program. Additionally, interns who are still completing their degree programs will have the opportunity to remain on with the company in a part-time role All interns whose talents align with the current and future needs of Florida Blue will be eligible and considered for employment opportunities.

      Must Have’s:
      • Currently enrolled in computer science, information technology, mathematics, psychology, or related degree program as a Junior or Senior student at an accredited college/university in May 2024
      • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better
      • Must be able to commit to working at least 30 hours a week
      • Basic PC skills required including working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
      • Basic programming knowledge, JavaScript/HTML/CSS or other Object Oriented programming experience
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; team and collaboration-oriented
      • Work under minimal supervision and adapt to a dynamic, changing environment
      • Must be a creative and innovative thinker

      Typical Hourly Pay Range: $22 - $32
