Rockhurst University is seeking applications for the IT Systems and Network Engineer position in the Computer Services department. This position is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and efficiency of the university’s IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, and critical safety systems. By automating processes, managing technology resources, and responding to emergencies, this role supports uninterrupted academic, administrative, and operational functions across the campus.

Rockhurst University is a Catholic, Jesuit University serving 3,500 students in the business and cultural center of Kansas City, MO. It is a comprehensive university offering more than 50 undergraduate and graduate programs taught by nationally recognized faculty. We employ approximately 500 faculty and staff.

Primary responsibilities include:

PowerShell Scripting and Automation: Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate tasks, improving efficiency and reducing manual intervention.

Server Infrastructure Management: Install, configure, and maintain server hardware and software, ensuring optimal performance and security compliance.

Network Engineering: Design, implement, and manage LAN, WAN, and wireless networks, ensuring seamless connectivity across the campus.

Security Management: Implement and maintain firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and network segmentation to safeguard the university’s data and systems.

System Hardening and Patching: Ensure all systems are securely configured with the latest security patches, minimizing vulnerabilities.

Access Control and Identity Management: Implement and manage multi-factor authentication (MFA), role-based access control (RBAC), and other access control systems.

Data Protection and Backup: Ensure the security and integrity of sensitive data through encryption and regular backups, testing disaster recovery processes regularly.

Critical Systems Maintenance: Maintain and manage campus security cameras, phone systems, and fire panel software to ensure operational safety and compliance.

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience is required. A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience in IT systems administration, network engineering, or a related role is required.
• Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or similar are preferred.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and planning skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information effectively to a diverse group of individuals, including faculty, staff, and external vendors.
• Effective project management skills: Demonstrated ability to manage complex IT projects from planning through execution while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
• Strong problem-solving abilities: Proven experience troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues across a range of IT systems.
• On-Call Availability: Be available 24/7 for emergency response to IT outages or critical system issues, ensuring prompt resolution and minimal downtime.
