Job summary
The Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) opened in August 2022. The purpose of SDEC is to provide a 'one stop' service for emergency patients who require safe timely assessment and/or treatment avoiding where possible, the need for admission. Under this care model, patients presenting at hospital with relevant conditions can be rapidly assessed, diagnosed, and treated without being admitted to a ward and if clinically safe to do so will go home the same day their care is provided.
There are 9 treatment spaces, and the unit is open between 8am to 7pm Monday to Friday. Working closely with the Medical Assessment Unit to ensure that it is fully utilised and patients are assessed and treated without delay. The Consultant of the day, based in MAU will provide supervision and support. The post holder will be based in SDEC and when required support MAU during times of escalation and will be expected to proactively input into the development of the unit.
Main duties of the job
The main responsibilities of the post are effective medical care of patients including acute assessment, and treatment. The post holder will be part of a larger medical and multidisciplinary team working under direct consultant supervision. All clinical staff are accountable for their own clinical competence and should limit their actions to those for which they are deemed competent. Clinical staff are required to comply with the requirements of their professional organisations regarding supervision.
All qualified staff have a responsibility to supervise unqualified/more junior staff and students on a day to day basis to ensure that patients receive appropriate care and that any untoward action is addressed.
The main responsibilities are for the effective and appropriate medical care of patients attending the Same Day Emergency Care Unit.

About the company
National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
