Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to perform specialized administrative duties and process complex legal documents in support of assigned court functions and provide lead guidance, direction and training to less experienced Jury Assistants.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned co-workers; confers with supervisor to obtain direction regarding work assignments and priorities; organizes tasks in order to complete assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; confers with co-workers; assists with complex/problem situations; provides technical expertise; and assists with training and instructing co-workers regarding operational procedures and proper use of equipment.
Oversees daily operations and procedures to summon, defer, excuse, and call-in individuals for jury duty; oversees operation of jury management software and online juror questionnaire; participates in upgrades to jury system; investigates and resolves questions, issues, and technical problems related to the jury system and jury service; consults with vendor(s); and assists information technology personnel with upgrades, modifications, and technical problems.
Coordinates jury services with various court administrative and division staff and outside agencies; explains and interprets jury rules to prospective jurors and the public; provides guidance and direction on jury program policies and procedures; resolves jury matters that arise.
Assists with coordination of juror orientations; gathers and distributes juror information; instructs jurors regarding courtroom schedules and set-up, court procedures and expectation, and the reason for summons; shows instructional video; informs courtroom when jurors are ready; sends jurors to assigned courtroom when instructed and in the order requested; distributes certificates of service; and processes payments to jurors for their service.
Coordinates and processes purchasing activities; coordinates with vendors for products or services; determines and communicates specifications; prepares and submits requisitions and purchase orders; monitors status and accuracy of purchase requisitions; and serves as department purchasing card representative.
Supervises and processes accurate and timely payment of jurors' fees and expenses; maintains records of jury service and related financial information; creates and reviews summary statistical and financial reports. Works to continually improve policies, procedures, and programs to accomplish the Courts goals and objectives. Manages the technical and administrative work of the division.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Law, or a related field required; five years of progressively responsible experience in managing court programs, providing jury services, or related field, to include lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license; and must possess and maintain Notary Public certification
