- Assist Culinary Arts Instructor with day-to-day operations of the student kitchen lab.
- Mentor and supervise students during food preparation, service, and cleanup activities.
- Help plan, prepare for, and execute catering events (including occasional evenings and weekends).
- Maintain accurate inventory records and manage food orders and expenses for the school café.
- Ensure kitchen safety, cleanliness, and compliance with food service regulations.
- Assist in organizing menus, café operations, and class-related events.
- Foster a professional and respectful learning environment for students.
- Strong culinary background and experience in food service or kitchen management.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to lead, mentor, and work collaboratively with high school students and staff.
- Working knowledge of food safety guidelines and kitchen sanitation procedures.
- Comfortable working flexible hours for occasional catering or school events.
- Proficiency with inventory systems and basic budgeting/expense tracking.
- Must pass a background check as required by JC Schools.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
- Must hold a valid MO driver driver’s license
- Experience in education or working with high school-aged students is a plus.
- Experience in the preparation of a wide variety of food on a quantity basis.
- Competency for assigned responsibilities with previous personnel supervision preferred.
- Ability to plan, organize and cater miscellaneous school events.
- Must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.

Nichols Career Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced Kitchen / Catering Assistant to support our high school Culinary Arts program . This unique role combines culinary expertise with mentorship, helping to guide and assist students in a hands-on kitchen lab environment. The Kitchen Manager will also play a key role in helping manage our school-based café , hosting catering events , and overseeing inventory and food service operations . This position will also work closely with the executive chef/instructor on program planning and implementation.Key Responsibilities:
