      Job Title: Kitchen / Catering Assistant – Culinary Arts Program
      Location: Nichols Career Center, Jefferson City, MO
      Position Type: Nutrition Services - Secondary Manager (Full-Time)

      Overview:
      Nichols Career Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced Kitchen / Catering Assistant to support our high school Culinary Arts program . This unique role combines culinary expertise with mentorship, helping to guide and assist students in a hands-on kitchen lab environment. The Kitchen Manager will also play a key role in helping manage our school-based café , hosting catering events , and overseeing inventory and food service operations . This position will also work closely with the executive chef/instructor on program planning and implementation.

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Assist Culinary Arts Instructor with day-to-day operations of the student kitchen lab.

      • Mentor and supervise students during food preparation, service, and cleanup activities.

      • Help plan, prepare for, and execute catering events (including occasional evenings and weekends).

      • Maintain accurate inventory records and manage food orders and expenses for the school café.

      • Ensure kitchen safety, cleanliness, and compliance with food service regulations.

      • Assist in organizing menus, café operations, and class-related events.

      • Foster a professional and respectful learning environment for students.

      Essential Skills & Qualifications:

      • Strong culinary background and experience in food service or kitchen management.

      • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

      • Ability to lead, mentor, and work collaboratively with high school students and staff.

      • Working knowledge of food safety guidelines and kitchen sanitation procedures.

      • Comfortable working flexible hours for occasional catering or school events.

      • Proficiency with inventory systems and basic budgeting/expense tracking.

      Requirements:

      • Must pass a background check as required by JC Schools.
      • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
      • Must hold a valid MO driver driver’s license
      • Experience in education or working with high school-aged students is a plus.

      Qualifications:

      • Experience in the preparation of a wide variety of food on a quantity basis.
      • Competency for assigned responsibilities with previous personnel supervision preferred.
      • Ability to plan, organize and cater miscellaneous school events.
      • Must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.
