Job Title: Lead Analytics Engineer

Role Purpose

We are seeking a Lead Analytics Engineer who is passionate about empowering our business to self-serve, by producing well-defined, optimised, and governed data products which are easily discoverable and allow us to maximise their value for data driven decision making.

You will work closely with the architecture team, data engineers, data scientists, data analysts and business stakeholders in delivering prioritised use cases across different business domains in our new Data Platform in AWS. You will be leading the efforts to extend the capabilities of the Data Platform, as well as supporting and mentoring the team and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities will include:

• Lead and deliver strategic use cases that support data driven decision making in the Data Platform.

• Support the recruitment, mentoring and development of resources in the team and promote best practice.

• Keep aware of emerging technologies and recommend improvements to data and analytics architecture and tooling.

• Drive POC’s to extend capabilities within the Data Platform and help define, prioritise, and progress the technology roadmap.

• Monitoring and alerting to identify when issues arise in the data pipelines and own from troubleshooting through to resolution.

• Help guide the team to continually explore opportunities to optimise the performance of data pipelines from ingestion through to exploration via analytical tools.

• Working with Data Engineers to implement new data pipelines to ingest data using a variety of design patterns including batch and near real-time.

• Design and implement tests within DBT and promote data quality initiatives to ensure we are delivering trusted data products.

• Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure their requirements are understood and data models are scalable and optimally designed in DBT in a way that empowers end users to self-serve.

• Enforce Data Governance through controls such as RBAC and recommend opportunities for improvements.
  

Key Requirements:

• At least 5 years in data and analytics roles with a strong proficiency in SQL and Python.

• Accomplished in data transformation and data modelling, ideally with DBT.

• Hands-on experience in building near real-time or batch-based data pipelines in AWS, utilising services such as Kinesis, Glue, S3, Lambda, Redshift and Athena.

• Proven experience in software development lifecycle in analytics (e.g., version control, testing, and CI/CD)

• Experienced in optimising data for its use in analytical and dashboarding tools, such as AWS Quicksight or Power BI.

• Ideally have worked on Apache Airflow or similar orchestration tools for scheduling and monitoring workflows.

• Worked as a team lead on data and analytics related projects in the cloud, preferably with AWS services.

• Previous Involvement in RBAC design, implementation, and ongoing support would be beneficial.

• Strategic mindset and can see the big picture.

• Possess excellent communication skills and can summarise complex technical issues and explain in simple terms to non-technical audiences.

• Ability to coach and mentor others to help them reach their potential.
