      The utility industry is undergoing significant changes as the proliferation of distributed generation technologies, products, and services are deployed on the distribution system. In this dynamic environment, safeguarding an increasingly interconnected system against evolving threats presents challenges. However, ensuring the effective and secure interconnection of devices is paramount for future grid stability, carbon reduction, enabling distributed energy resources (DER), advanced customer offerings, and demand response.

      In this role, you will have the opportunity to participate in the grid transformation and serve a critical function with responsibility for developing and overseeing the Distribution Cybersecurity Program, ensuring the security and resilience of our electric grid and associated systems. You will be accountable for collaborating with distribution business leaders to balance the benefits and available resources with the risks and monitor the execution of cybersecurity-related work performance.

      Your role will involve the successful development, direction, management, and implementation of the Cybersecurity Baselines for Customer Delivery, as well as ongoing leadership coordination, alignment, adoption planning, risk management, and issue resolution. Close partnership with business leadership, cybersecurity analysts, and other operational technology teams is essential.

      The ability to lead through influence and communicate with clarity of thought while understanding business, security, and technical requirements is crucial. Exceptional collaboration skills are a must for fostering effective working relationships with business partners and other key stakeholders.

      Beyond cybersecurity, your role extends to partnering with department management in advocating for and enabling secure information technologies, processes, and partnerships, encompassing IT, telecom, cybersecurity, and business leadership. You will also support the development of integration strategies between business and digital transformation efforts, aligning with broader communication transformation initiatives such as telecommunications, cellular, fiber, satellite, and emerging wireless technologies.

      Responsibilities

      • Accountable for the overall development, direction, management, integration, and implementation of Customer Delivery Cybersecurity organization including leadership coordination and alignment (CD, IT/OT, Cyber, IG, CIOPS, Telecom, IT), planning, monitoring, risk management, and issue resolution as well as the development of the CD Grid Connectivity strategy

      • Lead the CD Cybersecurity team focusing on leadership coordination, alignment, and adoption planning.

      • Collaborate with Customer Delivery Business leaders to make informed decisions on business operations and grid security work performance.

      • Develop integrated security strategies that support Customer Delivery, Integrated Grid, and digital transformation efforts aligning with the IT/OT Cybersecurity Program, GEE, Grid Connectivity Strategy, and CD Governance and Operations.

      • Partner with the IT/OT Cybersecurity Program representing Customer Delivery responsible for coordination of resources and subject matter expertise, advocacy of business operational requirements and implementation support.

      Basic/Required Qualifications

      • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business or other related degree

      • In addition to required degree, minimum eight (8) years relevant work experience

      • In lieu of required education, High School/GED and minimum fourteen (14) years relevant work experience

      • Process oriented while understanding the capabilities of technology and leveraging technology

      • Knowledge of NERC CIP reliability standards and Operational Technology security controls

      • Practical experience implementing NIST or other industry standard framework

      • Demonstrated innovation and creative abilities

      • Ability to manage resolution of complex issues from technology to vendor, to business issues

      • High degree of initiative, dependability, and ability to work with little supervision while being resilient to change

      • Strong understanding of OT network technologies, protocols, assets, devices

      • Working knowledge of Duke Energy specific software: DSCADA, Distribution Management System, and Outage Management System.

      • In depth knowledge of the Duke Energy processes for the specific software listed above.

      • Knowledge of other systems leveraged by the Distribution Control Centers or interfaces to the DMS, OMS, or DSCADA, such as iTOA, Voltage Management System (VMS), Yukon Feeder Automation (YFA), Radio Systems, Work Management System, Geographical

      • Understanding of security solutions that support confidentiality, integrity, and availability

      • Working knowledge of endpoint security such as Anti-virus, EDR, Configuration Management, and Vulnerability Management

      • Working knowledge of network security such as IDS/IPS, Firewalls, Network Segmentations, Secure Remote Access, and Network Inspection/Encryption zones.

      Working Conditions

      • Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.
