- Lead Network Team. Meet with the team weekly. Update project status and review tickets.
- Network Design and Planning - Design Network strategy to support the BPHC IT initiatives.
- Network Security- Protecting the BPHC's network from unauthorized access, data breaches, and other security threats is crucial.
- Network Implementation - configuring routers, switches, firewalls, and other networking equipment. Move, add, and deploy network equipment as needed or through proposed projects.
- Network Monitoring and Optimization- oversee the monitoring systems, which may include network monitoring software, and analyze network traffic patterns to optimize performance, identify bottlenecks, and plan for capacity upgrades when necessary.
- Keeping Up with Technology - The field of networking is continuously evolving. As a lead network manager, you should stay updated with the latest industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices. This will help you make informed decisions regarding network upgrades and improvements.
- Documentation of physical network infrastructure and configurations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network and Cisco VOIP-related issues.
- Work closely with the Server Infrastructure team to define networking strategies to better enhance the delivery of services.
- Assist User Services in the escalation of calls forwarded to the network team for resolution.
- Project Manage network expansion throughout BPHC.
- Interface with network providers for any network connectivity issues.
- Deploy and Manage systems management tools related to network infrastructure.
- Project lead on large network expansions and re-architecture projects.
- Works in confidential capacities with CIO and Technical Services Director.
- Other Duties as required.
- BS in Computer Science preferred. 5 Years of professional experience as a Cisco network engineer may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
- Experience with Cisco IOS, Switches, Routers, and VoIP configurations and troubleshooting experience required.
- In-depth understanding and practical experience in managing and configuring complex network infrastructures.
- Proficiency in network protocols such as OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP.
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and troubleshoot OSPF-based routing solutions.
- Experience with network monitoring and analysis tools to identify and resolve network performance issues.
- Wireless network provisioning and maintenance (preferably Meraki).
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, and routing protocols.
- Familiarity with network security principles and best practices.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Customer Service experience and a professional demeanor are required.
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team required.
- Must possess clear common, precise written and oral communication required.
- Experience with Load Balancing, Firewalls, and Security Systems is a plus.

Overview
Under the supervision of the Director of Technical Services. The Lead Network Engineer is to manage and lead the Sr. Network Engineer and Network Support Specialist, oversee, and manage the network infrastructure of the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC).
Your responsibilities involve designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization's computer networks, ensuring their security, availability, and performance. The position requires on-call availability.
As a lead network manager, you play a crucial role in establishing and maintaining a reliable, secure, and high-performance network infrastructure of BPHC. Effective communication, strong technical skills, and the ability to adapt to changing requirements are key to success in this role.
