      About the role:

      Key responsibilities for the role of Learning Designer include:

      • Creating the scope and sequence for curriculum design across Science or Second Language subjects and grades.
      • Supporting the Learning Design Team Lead in creating the day by day plan for the Science curriculum including Physics, Chemistry and Biology or the Second Languages curriculum (Afrikaans and/or isiZulu)
      • Receiving professional development on the Nova Pioneer Model of Learning Design, integrated curriculum design, Project-Based Learning a variety of thinking routines and skills in lessons.
      • Create lesson plans with an enquiry focus aligned to relevant curricula.
      • Infusing the Cambridge Curriculum resources as well as outside resources into lessons.
      • Researching and designing assessments and creating rubrics and marking schemes for assessments
      • Design templates and documents for ease of use by teachers across grades.
      • Plan with student collaboration and group work in mind.
      • Develop technology-rich lesson designs and plans.
      • Use constructive feedback in reflection, redesign and recreation of plans and documents.

      About You

      Skills and Qualifications required:

      • You have 2+ years working experience in a rigorous, high-expectations setting
      • You have distinctive interest/knowledge and experience in the subject for which you design i.e. the Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) OR Second Languages (Afrikaans/isiZulu)
      • You have experience with or understanding of various curricula - experience with Cambridge objectives is ideal but not essential.
      • You have a track record of developing creative and rigorous curricula that has led to distinctive learning outcomes.
      • You have a desire to further develop your curriculum development skills and apply them to transform the lives of African youth.
      • You have strong writing skills and are able to use those to create lessons that will help students learn it while being engaged and interested.
      • You are driven by data and can use data from student assessments to strengthen lessons and spiral in key skills.
      • You are flexible and open to change - you handle uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity well.
      • You are a problem solver - you are proactive in identifying issues and address these thoroughly by making effort to find appropriate solutions.
      • You are excited about our organizational culture—and in particular, you are fired up to challenge yourself by embracing mutual vulnerability and a firehose of feedback.
