About the opportunity

The University Centre for Rural Health (UCRH), Rural Clinical School - Northern Rivers, University of Sydney provides a multidisciplinary centre of excellence in education of students for clinical practice in rural health to support future workforce for regional Australia. We also conduct research relevant to the priorities and needs of rural communities, with a focus on Aboriginal health research, climate change and health impacts, education research and health services research.

The UCRH aims to be an outstanding provider of inter-professional health education, providing:

• authentic and supportive clinical experiences to students (including allied health, medical, nursing, oral health and dentistry) through exposure to diverse learning opportunities in rural communities;

• an excellent education program that complements those of our partner universities; and

• support to the future health workforce in a complex environment.

The UCRH continues to grow and develop and we are now seeking to appoint a Lecturer, Health Workforce who applies their learnings through research and scholarly activity to inform education and research practice. This role is expected to make a significant contribution to emerging issues and opportunities in a changing healthcare environment, and to contribute to teaching and learning practice, design and evaluation within the School, and to contribute to research related to the role that informs and supports future workforce needs. This is an opportunity to work with Professor Vicki Flood and the team at UCRH and contribute to workforce development to support health for rural communities.

The UCRH has a footprint in the Northern Rivers, NSW, north to the Mullumbimby region, south to Grafton, west to the Bonalbo region and east to Ballina/ Byron, and works closely with multiple partners to support education, research and workforce development in Northern NSW.

The Lismore campus is located within walking distance of the Lismore Base Hospital and, along with our other numerous community and health partners, provides opportunities to support education and research activity in the region. Presence on campus at Lismore is important to this role and there are many vibrant towns in this region offering relocation possibilities and opportunity to be part of this wonderful community.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• facilitate engagement with stakeholders to anticipate and incorporate the changing landscape and reforms of the healthcare system, in particular of primary health;

• strengthen health workforce pathways including advocating for an Allied Health regional training hub;

• advocate for workforce development including retention, and broader social considerations, such as the impacts of climate change

• identify, develop and manage stakeholder engagement related to health professions, in particular allied health professions;

• engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences (at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level) which meet the University’s expectations and standards for education

• undertake original research within the discipline or area of expertise

• contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled

• contribute expertise and knowledge to forums of public debate, where appropriate and consistent with University policy

• develop productive relationships, collaborations and partnerships with external parties (including research partners, government bodies and industry) which will ultimately contribute to improved outcomes for the profession, industry and/or community, with a particular focus on workforce development.

About you

• have a PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline or other higher professional qualifications appropriate to a relevant discipline

• have a developing research profile evidenced by original, high quality research in the discipline or area of expertise

• have experience in teaching and learning, including demonstrated experience in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives

• have a developing network of relationships with academic, consumer / advocacy, industry and / or professional organisations, partners and stakeholders

• have experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities

• have a developing knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the discipline and higher education sector.
